ROY ANDERSON
February 14, 1934 – August 28 2014

It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our devoted husband, father, grand-father, great grand-father, uncle and friend to all, Roy Anderson “Roy Boy”. Roy was born Valentine’s Day, 1934 to Augusta and Henry Anderson.

Roy is survived by his loving wife Lillian of 60 years, his children, Lyle (Frederica), Linda (Kerry), daughter-in-law Merle, Allen, Carol (Andrew), Wayne (Cathy), 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Roy was pre-deceased by his three sons, Edward, Conrad and Brian and daughter-in-law Debbie. Brothers Robert, William and sister Nea. Brother in law Harry, Calvin and Edward, sister in law Aldis.

Raised in Piney, Manitoba, Roy started work at a very young age, hauling water to the wood cutters and working in bush camps. Always hard working, Roy worked at Manitoba Hydro, the pipe line, the Piney Hotel and Patterson’s Garage. Roy also worked the farm and ran a private contract business until 1979 when he started with Manitoba Department of Highways, retiring at age 65.

Roy enjoyed his retirement spending time with family and friends, travelling, reading and watching his grandchildren’s sporting activities. Everyone will remember Roy’s passion for music and Elvis. He was also the Senior Manitoba Arm wrestling champion, earning him top three in Canada.

Roy and Lillian’s kindness extended to helping those in need by always having an open door to their home for anyone who needed their love and care. Dad was a “Mr. fix it” and always had the tools available to fix almost anything.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Vita Hospital and send a special “Thank you” to Chris, Kayla, Jeff, Jean and Pauline for the compassionate care they provided. We do sincerely hope we haven’t left anyone out.

A memorial service in celebration of Roy’s life will be held at the Piney Community Centre, on Friday September 5th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Lou Hermanson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roy’s memory to the Piney Community Church, General Delivery, Piney, Manitoba, R0A 1K0, for the church restoration fund.
