Romelda Fuchs

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mama, Romelda Fuchs, on Sunday, August 24, 2014. After a short, valiant battle with kidney failure, Mama went to be with her Lord.

She leaves to mourn: her daughter Darlene (Ray) and their children Janaya and Camryn; her son Wayne (Candice) and his children Shyla and Kalan; and special grandchildren Stephanie and Wyatt. She is also survived by one brother, Wilbert (Marlene) Schalla. She was predeceased by her husband William in 1985, infant granddaughter Shaneice, one sister, and all of her husband’s siblings and their spouses.

Mama was born May 13, 1929 in the Steinbach area. She spent her younger years helping her family take care of their father who was bedridden. After meeting and marrying our Dad, she spent many years working hand in hand with him on their dairy farm. One of the most difficult times in her life was losing the love of her life when she was only 56 years old. She persevered and showed us her strength at that time, carrying on with the dairy farm, along with her son. In her later years, Mama became an example for her whole family, while remaining in her own home in the country. She was the least judgemental person anyone of us has ever met. She gave a listening ear to each of us, which we will always cherish. No one ever left her home hungry; in fact, she would not eat until she was sure her guests were well fed. Mama experienced a successful hip replacement in December of 2013. She was able to park her wheel chair and resume normal activities. Shortly after her knee replacement in July of 2014, she became ill. She was determined to overcome this latest obstacle, but God had other plans for her. She faced the last few weeks with determination, strength, and thankfulness for all the care given to her by the friends she made on the 2nd Floor at Bethesda Hospital. She was an example to all of us.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 West, Steinbach. A viewing will also be held at the church prior to the service.
