DAVE HEINRICHS

Dave Heinrichs passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the age of 83.

Dave leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 59 years, Amanda (Reimer); his children: Marina (Gerald Klassen), Marlowe (Judy Peters) and their children Seth and Jakobi; Marlys (Darnell Thiessen) and their children Joel, Dylan and Janae; Myra (Cam Gerbrandt) and their children Connor, Logan, and Emmett. He is also survived by four brothers: Pete (Margaret), Bill (Helen), Harry (Ione), and Randy; and three sisters: Mary (Abe Unrau), Johanna, and Edna (Tom Fallon). Dave was predeceased by his parents, William and Tina Heinrichs, sister Martha, brothers-in-law Bruce Cowie and Levi Reimer, and sister-in-law Dorothy Heinrichs (nee Martens).

Dave was born in Lowe Farm on August 20, 1930 and grew up on a farm in the Grunthal area. His goal in life was to become a farmer, but God had other plans for him. After hearing a sermon on Matthew 10:8, “Freely you have received, freely give”, at a mission’s conference, he felt called into missions and attended Prairie Bible Institute in 1951. Upon graduating, he married Amanda Reimer in 1955. By 1960 they were in Germany as missionaries with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada (EFCC) until 1983, when a massive heart attack brought him back to Canada for surgery and recovery.

In spite of health setbacks, Dave continued his ministry as District Superintendent and by pioneering the missions work in Eastern Europe in his role as Missions Director for the EFCC. Dave also began a vital prayer ministry in Steinbach which included many pastors and close friends. Even in his 80s he was always on the go, nurturing relationships as husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and encourager to many.

Retirement also allowed him to spend more time at his much loved “farm” in Marchand where he spent many hours with his wife and family, driving the tractor or tinkering on a project.

We will remember Dave for his passion for life and his zeal for the Lord. He has been an inspiration and blessing to many. We will miss him dearly.

The viewing will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., with a devotional to follow at 7:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, MB.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, Steinbach, Manitoba. A private interment will be held prior to the service at Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evangelical Free Church Missions or Trans World Radio.
