NICK THIESSEN

On Thursday, May 29, 2014, peacefully in his sleep, Nick
went to be with the Lord, at the age of 89.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his daughter June, son
Phil and granddaughters Tamara and Tracy, special friend
Frieda Duerksen, special niece Dorothy Laurin and her
husband Ed, four brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, and
numerous nieces and nephews.

Nick was predeceased by his wife Anne, son-in-law Mike
Whitehead, his five siblings, five brothers-in-law, and
three sisters-in-law.

Nick’s family emigrated from Russia. He was born in
Rosenfeld, Manitoba in 1925. He had two brothers and
three sisters. His family lived in Minnedosa and a few
other towns in Manitoba before moving to “Berwahl”, which
was a little settlement southwest of Steinbach. It is
here that he met his future bride, Anne Harms. About this
time his family moved to British Colombia and shortly
thereafter they experienced a very severe flood. So Nick
went to B.C. to help his parents through their difficult
time and when things settled down again he came back to
Manitoba to marry Anne and settle on a farm in the Bristol
School District. Nick worked on road construction all his
working years. He worked for Carter Constructions, Kays
Construction, and Fast Brothers, to name a few. He
worked on the Trans-Canada Highway when it was being
built. In spring he would take time off from construction
to put the crops in at home and then again in fall to
harvest the crops. Then in 1986, his wife Anne passed
away. In 1987, he sold the farm and moved to Steinbach.
In 2000, he moved to a condo on Hanover Street where he
resided till his passing.

The funeral service for Nick Thiessen will be held on
Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Steinbach Mennonite
Brethren Church, with burial to follow at Memorial
Cemetery, Steinbach, MB. There will be a time of viewing
at the church prior to the service.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of Nick may be
made to The Gideons or to a charity of one's choice.

Nick will be missed by his family, church friends, coffee
friends, and many others.

May you rest in peace.
