Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLIFFORD RIDLEY JAMES (Skip) RIDLEY
On Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, with his family at his side, Skip peacefully passed away at Concordia Place at the age of 93.
Skip is survived by his son Brian (Lois), daughter Arlene Downey, and his grandchildren Cameron Ridley and Megan Downey.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Myrtle; parents James and Margaret; sisters Myrtle, Mary, Bertha, May and Dorothy; his brothers Roy and Art; his son-in-law Mel Downey and his brother-in-law Al Stacey.
Skip served in the army during World War II, primarily in England and Italy. After the war, he worked as a mechanic in Manitou, Altamont and Brandon before becoming a customs officer with the Canada Border Services Agency. He was stationed at the outports of South Junction and Piney for over 33 years. Upon retirement, Skip moved to Winnipeg to be closer to the family.
Dad loved to hunt and fish and vacation in Hawaii, but his favourite pastime was to spend all summer at the cottage at Falcon Lake. Skip loved to putter and spent countless hours on little projects. He also loved to walk and became a familiar fixture on his daily 10-mile walks both at the lake and along Henderson Hwy.
We would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Concordia Place for their compassion and exceptional care of Dad during his stay there. He commented often about how well everyone there treated him and how he liked living there.
Cremation has already taken place and a private service will be held at a later date.
Dad, you will always be remembered by all for your kind and gentle manner and your good sense of humour. Not only were you a father and mentor, but also our best friend.
