VERNON (VERN) VOECHTING
June 22, 1929 – January 21, 2021

Born to Gerhardt and Eva Voechting, on the family farm in Tribune, Saskatchewan.
Vern was the youngest of five siblings. He attended Big Timber School in Tribune District. He was predeceased by parents, Gerhardt and Eva Voechting; brother Harold (Mabel - first wife, Margaret - second wife), Gerta (Art Broker), Irene (Ed Newman), Georgina (Robert McKenzie - first husband, Pete McAdam - second husband.)
He is survived by his wife Bernice (Bunny); son David (Melanie Wood) and daughter Pamela (Mike Dorge).
Vern married Bernice (Bunny) on October 17, 1951 in Radville Saskatchewan. Together they raised two children.
Vern worked at various jobs and in the late 1950s, was employed by Standard Surgical Supply as a sales representative. He worked his way up in the company and in 1962 moved the family to Winnipeg to become the manager of the Manitoba operation.
In the late 1970s, Vern and Bunny started their own surgical supply business, Mar-Ber Medical. They worked together in the business until 1984, when they sold it and retired. After retirement, they enjoyed many winters in Arizona. Vern also enjoyed his yard in the summer, spending lots of time in the gazebo in his recliner.
Vern enjoyed sports, especially baseball and hockey. In the 1970s, he was on the Executive of the Manitoba Baseball Association and he was a season ticket holder of the Winnipeg Jets when they were in the WHA and NHL. He helped to start the Crestview United Church and served as a trustee on the church board.
Vern enjoyed visiting with family and friends, whether new or old, playing cards, a good joke on himself or others, talking about his time growing up and working on the farm and spending time with Pam and David's pets. Vern was always active, even up to his last few years, by riding his bike around the neighbourhood, thus helping control his diabetes for over 40 years.
The family thanks all the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge, especially Team Leader Wendy, for the care and compassion they showed to Vern and the family.
Cremation to take place and a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.
Donations can be made to Crestview United Church, 316 Hamilton Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2Y 2H5.
