Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I worked with Chris for 15 years with the Manitoba Moose, and then True North Sports & Entertainment. Chris became a great friend and confidant, and carried me for years as my partner in fantasy football. I came to trust Chris’s judgement, but more than anything else I enjoyed his company. Chris had the uncanny ability to have breadth and depth of knowledge in myriad subjects. I miss my friend and will certainly carry his memory. - Posted by: Robert Thorsten (Friend) on: Feb 28, 2021

  • Chris and I met back in his MB Moose days and since that day, we were brothers. He was trusted sounding board, always patient and provided honest and sound advice. We enjoyed our talks, beers, hockey trips and most of all, we enjoyed the fact that no matter how many days would go by between connections, we would pick right up where we left off. Chris will always be held in my heart as a man of integrity, courage, wit, intelligence, kindness and love. An amazing father for “buck” as we nicknamed Thomas long before he became the man he is today. A special family and I send the love of the Meijer family to Karan and Thomas. Chris I love you my brother. I will always remember you and I know in my soul we will see each other again. I’m remain honoured and blessed to have known you, but more over, to have you as my brother for ever. Love Rob, Hilary, Jayda and Avery. - Posted by: Rob Meijer (Friend ) on: Feb 06, 2021

  • My remembrance of my dear Chris was of his invitation to me to join his band, at the time with Bob Carleton, Tony Cesario, and a drummer whose name escapes me at present. Chris welcomed me into the group (“The Rage”?) and shared his joy of playing cover tunes from the era, many of them from local bands like Harlequin or Streetheart. Although that iteration of their band never made it to the stage, I was forever thrilled with the idea that I could play rock music and have so much fun. If there is one sad note in my story, it is that after getting reunited through the “magic” of Facebook, I was never able to connect with Chris on my trips home to Winnipeg; always going to my family cottage, or, being so busy at Christmas /Holiday times that a long-hoped for meeting did not take place before he passed on. To everyone who knew and loved him, I solemnly offer my deep condolence. Safe journey, my brother: be glad 🙏🪶 Not sad...🌈☀️ - Posted by: Doug Gelley (Friend) on: Feb 05, 2021

  • Chris Bud (as he was affectionately known to his U2 group of misfits) was someone who could be called a true friend. I first met Chris through a common friend (Greg Glover) back in 1984 and we have been friends since. Cousin Luke, Buddy Bri, Candy-Ass (long story) and myself spent a lot of time together listening to tunes and being typical 20-something goofballs. When Greg passed in a tragic car accident in 1986 it was Chris Bud who held us together and kept us sane. In fact, in 1987 he organized a trip to Minneapolis for the group of us to go see U2 live as a tribute to our fallen friend Greg. It was a hoot!!!. Over the years and with the group getting married, having families of our own and moving on we still kept in touch and would meet when we could. Recently I have been afflicted with the same cancer as affected Chris Bud and he would meet me for breakfast or call me to check up on me and answer some of my questions. He loved to collect guitars and shoot the poop about music (I am also a fellow musician). He was such a kind soul and I will miss him very much. The world truly lost a treasured soul. RIP Chris Bud. Buddy Bri and Greg are waiting for you. - Posted by: Grant Barry (Friend) on: Feb 03, 2021

  • I first met Chris 40+ years ago at the cottage in Ponemah. Chris’ parents owned a lovely spot down the road from my family’s cabin. Our lifelong friendship is one of which I cherished. When one of my foster dogs came up for adoption, Chris reached out to me to ask if he and Karen could meet Rusty. Needless-to-say, it was love at first sight. Rusty took to Karen straight away. I am so happy Rusty brought so much joy to Chris, and I loved seeing the pictures of them together on his Facebook page. Chris and I shared a passion for classic cars, and it was always wonderful to meet up with him at shows. I will miss his friendship dearly. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. I love you, buddy. - Posted by: Shelley (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2021

  • Chris was the guitarist in our fledgling jazz band, the St. Charles Jazz Band and he contributed in more ways than playing the right notes. We all appreciated his presence. RIP. - Posted by: Raymond K McClelland (Band mate) on: Jan 30, 2021

  • I met Chris through the World Science Fiction convention and Keycon. We have missed him, he was such a fabulous human being. May his memory be a blessing and our sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: LéAmber Kensley (Friend) on: Jan 30, 2021
