SERAFINA BANATHY (PALETTA)
Born: May 20, 1945
Date of Passing: May 11, 2021Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and support staff throughout the years in CancerCare at Health Sciences Centre, and most recently in Palliative Care at St. Boniface.
Serafina (Sera) was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy, on May 20, 1945, immigrating as a child with her family, arriving in Winnipeg, December 1953. Sera was predeceased by her parents, Giuseppe and Angelina Paletta.
Sera was so loved by family and friends. Left to forever cherish her memory are daughter Lisa (Joel) Karpyshin; and sons, Joey Banathy and Tony Paletta, who supported her in every way they could throughout her battle, and her granddaughters, Skyler and Kendall Karpyshin, and Isabella Paletta, who were bright lights in her life.
Hank Plouffe, her partner for the last 13 years, showed her how beautiful relationships should be. He was her rock throughout their time together.
She had a lifetime of love and support from her sisters, Roslyn (Candido) Jacobucci, Antonia Paletta (Pete Haylett), and Anna Paletta (Ali Hosein).
Sera also leaves to grieve her passing nieces, Gloria and Angela; nephews, Robert and David, as well as her loving Paletta cousins. Her many good friends include her coworkers and customers at the Assiniboine Hotel where Sera worked for over 40 years.
Her journey showed her much love and hardship but love prevailed. Her faith in the One Source, which she called God, carried her through good times as well as tough times.
Due to Covid the service will be postponed. A celebration of her life will take place when that is possible.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations, if desired, can be made in her name to the Salvation Army, or the charity of your choice.

Dear, dear Sera, You are in a much better place now, the end of your suffering was merciful. Yet, I wish you could have been with us so much longer and in good health. I am in awe of the strength of your spirit, throughout your life and in your last seven year struggle. You have shown me how living through the most difficult of circumstances is overcome, and how caring, kindness and compassion for others can and does prevail. I am honored to have been your sister. I will miss you dearly. Rest in peace my sister. - Posted by: Anna Paletta (Sister) on: May 20, 2021
We met over 12 years ago at church. We had great times dancing at the Legion on Friday nights. Once a month our dancing crew had fun times at our karaoke, potluck dinners. Enjoyed our phone talks especially when we couldn’t socialize because of pandemic. Enjoy your pain free life on the other side. Til we meet again and we can say I LOVE YOU as we did every time we said goodbye. Cherished our talks.💔❤️🥰😇 Missing you, NAMASTE, Mary Jean - Posted by: Mary Jean Dresler (Friend) on: May 17, 2021
My beloved sister, Sera, will be sorely missed by me. We FaceTimed daily for the past year and spent many holidays together throughout our lives. At this time I have a great sense of relief that she is finally free of her bodily pain, her spirit is soaring! I know I will miss her dreadfully in coming days but am happy to see her free of pain and sorrows! - Posted by: Toni Paletta (Sister) on: May 17, 2021

Mom, I cannot describe how painful losing you feels. A part of my heart is gone forever more, and I hope you feel that it went with you to heaven to comfort and embrace you. You were my guiding light as a Mom and and a teacher, yet again, through your illness, because you taught me how courageous a mother can truly be. I will try to continue my life through your example with my daughters and my goal is to make you proud. The bond we shared was undeniable, and for that I am eternally grateful. Rest In Peace my love, your pain and suffering is finally over. I love you deeply, and will cherish our memories together. Finally Mom, I want to thank you for all your sacrifices you made for us, your children, and for our children as well. Love your devoted daughter, Lisa XOXO - Posted by: Lisa karpyshin (Daughter) on: May 15, 2021
