PETER ABRAM DYCK

On May 12, 2021, our dear father, Peter Abram Dyck, passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Peter was born on December 8, 1930 in Winnipeg, MB. He grew up at Newton Siding, MB, on his parents' farm. He was the fourth child of Mennonite parents, A.A. Dyck of Kronberg, Russia and Maria Dick of New York, Russia. His mother died when he was two, and his father later married Johanna Dick and had six more children.
Peter leaves to mourn his loving wife Mary (née Doerksen), son Peter R. Dyck (wife Linda, son Phillip), daughter Carol Greeve (husband John, and children, Jared and Rachel, and great-grandchildren, Bunja and Sembeh), Emma, and Zach. Also, siblings, Henry, Mary, Jake, John and Fred Dyck, and Agnes DeFehr, all of Winnipeg, MB. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings, Anne Hamm, Abe Dyck Jr., and Helen Pankratz, all of Winnipeg, MB.
Peter was an amazing man and lived a very full life receiving his Master of Social Work at 28 and worked for the Manitoba Government, his Master of Divinity at 40, and ordained from North Park Seminary, Chicago, Illinois, pastored two Evangelical Covenant churches, then was ordained as an Anglican Priest in 1984, pastored St. Andrew's Morinville, AB from 1987 to 1997. He worked for the Alberta Government as a Social Worker briefly before working as a Family Therapist at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Edmonton. He had a private practice in family therapy from 1984 to 2006 when he retired and was an Honorary Assistant at St. John's Anglican in Edmonton. Peter had a degree in classical voice and performed as a soloist, in small group ensembles, and sang in and conducted many choirs including singing in the Kings College Community Choir till age 80.
Our father was a kind, encouraging, compassionate man who many loved as a father figure. His incredible faith in God is what steered the course of his life. His favourite phrase was, "Let's Celebrate!!" and his big, generous heart and zest for life will be missed by us all!
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory may be made to Kids Kottage in Edmonton (kidskottage.org).

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Jean and I offer our condolences to Mary and the family. Peter and Mary were friends of ours in Winnipeg through the Covenant church there. I would like to think I had a strong influence in Peter's decision to attend North Park College and Seminary. If do, I am most pleased, as he went on to contribute to God's kingdom in pastoral leadership and counseling. Both Peter and Mary are gentle kind people who we loved dearly. - Posted by: Norman Fullerton (Friend) on: May 31, 2021

  • I (Eleonore) remember Peter as soft-spoken, thoughtful, and always friendly. He did us the honor of singing at our wedding. Keep on singing, Peter. You have an incredible voice. Eleonore - Posted by: Henry and Eleonore Esau (Cousins) on: May 30, 2021

  • Harry and I share the condolences so well worded by Karin. Yes, the "Newton Dycks" - it was always fun to visit that busy yard. Memories go back so far. We also remember Peter and Mary from our journeys in the Covenant church. Our condolences to Mary, the children, grandchildren and siblings. May the love of God surround you and give you peace. • Our condolences to our dear cousins..."The Newton Dyck's," as you were known by many. We have fond memories of time spent on the family farm. We remember Peter as an extremely good looking man, with a gorgeous singing voice. The obituary outlines his many talents and gifts and he served his God with the gifts he had. May God comfort you all. With love, Dave and Karin Boese - Posted by: Dave and Karin Boese (Cousin) on: May 24, 2021
