Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Manfred played his down his talent. Fred our neighbour, friend and Rocket Scientist fixed Environment Canada equipment that the engineers could not. Spectrum Enterprises. He hated the moniker Rocket Scientist and stated: I am Rocket Instrumentation Technician not a Rocket Scientist. In the 1980s he created and tinkered with many devices. Moreover he and Kathy were friends. We would go out and have ice cream or watch movies. I will cherish the time we had together. God Speed Fred. - Posted by: Penny l. • Fred was a great and caring neighbour. He also had a great laugh and sense of humour, introducing me to the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He was also the smartest person I ever met. I introduced him to golf where he applied physics to his golf swing. The first time he swung a club he hammered it right down the middle of the fairway. I said, "Fred, how did you do that?" "Well, with the shape of the club and a round ball, I knew I needed to hit the ball with this part of the club." :) I remember he also built his computer from scratch because the ones for sale didn't have the features he wanted. I believe it was a family member who asked him to look at his TV, which had stopped working. Fred said, "Well, I don't know anything about TVs, but I'll have a look." Naturally, he was able to fix it. He was also like that with appliances which had stopped working. I thought I was a bit of an astronomy buff, but he invariably quickly lost me in our myriad conversations which surprised him. I said, "Fred, not everyone's a rocket scientist." He said in all sincerity, "Actually I am a rocket instrumentation technician." He will be missed. My sincere condolences to Kathy and his family. - Posted by: Barry Horeczy (Friend/longtime neighbour) on: Jun 05, 2021
