FLORA (KEITH) SWAITY
1931 - 2021

The world lost a great lady on June 2, 2021, when Flora Swaity passed away at the River East Personal Care Home. She was one month shy of her 90th birthday.
Flora was predeceased by three sisters, two brothers, her first husband Ronald Keith, second husband Russ Swaity, and son Don. She leaves to mourn a brother and sister in BC, and her five remaining children, Ron (Susan), Gord (Liz), John (Leah), Wendy (Tom) and Ward (Joanne). She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Pat, and Russ's five children and their families.
Flora was born on July 18, 1931 in Tisdale, SK and moved to BC with her family as a young girl. At age 17, she struck out on her own and relocated to Winnipeg where she met her first husband of 33 years, Ronald Keith. Together they raised six successful children and founded the largest independent insurance brokerage in Winnipeg's North End. In 1996, Flora married Russ Swaity and they remained partners until his death in 2010.
In recent years, progressive dementia robbed Flora of most of her memories but this didn't change her zest for life, fierce independence, and mischievous personality. It is these qualities that her family will remember and cherish most.
Special thanks to management and staff at the Irene Baron Eden Centre and to the nursing staff on Faith Lane at the River East Personal Care Home for their care and compassion over the past three years, and in particular during Flora's final two weeks before passing.

Rest In Peace Mom. You will be
sadly missed and always remembered.

  • Flo was my grandmother in every way that counted. She has been in my life since I was 10, when she married my Gida, Russ. She never forgot to call me on my birthday and always insisted I stay with them when I visited. She was a wonderful lady, and I will never forget the love she gave me. I’m so sorry for your loss, her memory will live on in her family. Xoxo Andrea - Posted by: Andrea Washenfelder (Grandmother (step)) on: Jun 10, 2021
