Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Dave played a large role in my life as a mentor and friend. He served as my PhD external through which I first learned of his editorial and scientific guidance excellence. Over the years we helped Bob Newbury develop the stream hydrology and ecology course at Kananaskis which continued for more than 2 decades. His sage advice was always spot on and I have a vivid memory of him advising that my 5 year old daughter would grow up sooner than I thought so dedicate time to family as well as work. He was a leader in the field of freshwater ecology who contributed much to the field. We were blessed to be his friend. My condolences to Trudy and family. - Posted by: Joseph Culp (Friend and colleague) on: Sep 23, 2021

  • Trudy and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Dave was one of my most important mentors. I wouldn't be the scientist I am or have the life I live if it were not for his guidance and teachings. I will miss him very much. - Posted by: Dr. Britt Hall (Mentoree) on: Jul 25, 2021

  • I am so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. I worked with Dave on the "RAMP Review" in the oil sands many, many years ago. Dave, Burton Ayles and I took on a task that was difficult technically and politically. I was green behind the ears with Dave and Burton being much more experienced. Yet, we were a team of equals and Dave and Burton treated me with such respect and inclusivity that it influenced my confidence as a scientist and my career path in a very positive way. I am so grateful for that experience and the opportunity to learn from Dave. He was a wonderful mentor. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Dr. Monique Dube (Colleague) on: Jul 15, 2021

  • Dave was a great colleague; always good for a laugh and straight answers for any question. Cheers Dave on the rest of your journey and condolences to Trudy and families. Bill - Posted by: William Franzin (Colleague) on: Jul 11, 2021
