MARCEL ANDRE PAUWELYN

It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Marcel André Pauwelyn , at home on July 30, 2021, at the age of 89.
Marcel was born on December 7, 1931, in Kuurne, Belgium. He spent the early years of his childhood in Passendale with his parents and six younger siblings on their farm. On August 1, 1956, Marcel immigrated to Canada. After working a year in Ontario on farms he moved to Winnipeg in 1957 and immediately became a member of the Belgian Club. In 1959, Marcel met Agnes Catrysse at the Belgium Club and they were married on June 25, 1960 and had five children. They became Canadian citizens together on May 14, 1964.
Marcel began to work in the construction in 1957. During his career, he became the concrete foreman for PCL and poured concrete for many of the major buildings in Winnipeg before retiring in 1990.
Marcel's greatest passion was cycling. He was the Manitoba Veteran's Cycling champion for many years and continued to cycle into his 89th year. His family fondly remembers his competitive spirit inspiring them to chase down other cyclists on family bike rides. Marcel also enjoyed woodworking and crafted hundreds of beautiful intarsias over the last 30 years. He lovingly built wagons and sleds for his six grandchildren. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Winnipeg after his retirement.
Although Marcel was a soft-spoken man, his loving gestures will be warmly remembered by those who were close to him. His legacy of hard work and endurance will live on in the lives and hearts of his family.
A funeral service will be held on August 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Coutu Funeral Home, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
