Albert Oliver Nelson was 98 years young. He passed away quietly and peacefully on August 13, 2021 at Grace Hospital. Albert was the fifth child of Larsine (1894-1976) and John Nelson (1890-1978). Albert was born to them September 4, 1922 at their farm northwest of Inwood.
Albert married Annie Ruth Roberts on September 22, 1951 and they enjoyed 67 years together in their home in St. James prior to her passing in 2018. During these years they spent many hours in the car driving across the country visiting friends and family.
Albert has lived a good, long life and he has touched so many lives on his journey. He was always ready to help with a hammer or a saw and many of us are familiar with that little red toolbox that was always in the trunk of his car.
Albert worked for the Central Provincial Government Garage (later Fleet Services) for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He was a long-time member and volunteer of the Scandinavian Centre and Danish Club in Winnipeg. He was an avid hunter and member of the St. James Assiniboine Wildlife Association. He and his wife Ruth were involved with Scouts Canada and Albert as a Scout Leader for 40th Scout Pack.
His only surviving sibling left to mourn is Arnold Nelson. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He is lovingly remembered and survived by his sons, Garry (Rita) of St. Malo, MB and Rod (Marilyn) of Pilot Mound, MB. He leaves behind four grandsons, three granddaughters and their spouses along with 17 great-grandchildren and stepgrandchildren. Albert has been predeceased by five brothers, Joe, Emil, Roy, Norman and Murray, and one sister Jean Georgeson.
A private family service will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. The service will be live-streamed and available to view on Albert's obituary page at It will remain available on the website to watch at a later date.
