PAUL LAVALLEE
1919 - 2020

C'est avec une profonde tristesse, que nous vous annonçons le décès de notre cher père, grand-père, arrière grand-père Paul le 18 mai 2020 à Actionmarguerite-St. Vital, à l'âge de 101 ans.
Paul fut précédé dans la mort par son épouse Françoise (née Tremblay), après plus de 58 ans de mariage, et par ses deux frères Jean et Gérard.
Il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Claude (Claire), Paulette (Ken), Yvonne (Norm), Marc (Violanda) et Monique ainsi que ses 11 petits-enfants et 11 arrière petits-enfants.
Né à St. Boniface le jeune Paul a rapidement demontré un talent pour le hockey et a joué jusqu'au niveau senior avec les Millers de Moose Jaw où il jouait sur la même ligne qu'Elmer Lach. Papa a refusé deux invitations aux camps d'entrainement du Canadien de Montreal et des Rangers de New York. Il nous répétait toujours que ce fut une des meilleures décisions de sa vie puisqu'il n'aurait pas rencontré l'amour de sa vie Francoise, qu'il a épousée le 27 septembre, 1945.
Paul a commencé à travailler pour le CP dès sa sortie de l'école secondaire. En 1966 il accepta une offre d'un transfert à Montréal pour le Canadian Freight Association dont il est devenu le président. Paul a fait beaucoup de bénévolat pendant sa vie d'abord comme secrétaire-trésorier au Cercle Ouvrier à St. Boniface puis pendant de nombreuses années à la Société St. Vincent de Paul à Montréal. Il a aussi été impliqué auprès du Club de Trafic de Montréal où il a agi comme président en 1976.
Paul a pris sa retraite en 1984 après plus de 48 ans de service dans le domaine ferroviaire. Papa a bien profité de sa retraite en jouant beaucoup de golf l'été et en passant ses hivers avec Françoise en Floride où ils allaient rejoindre plusieurs membres de la famille Tremblay. Il a poursuivi son bénévolat à la SSVP jusqu'à son départ de Montréal à l'âge de 88 huit ans.
Suite au décès de Françoise en 2004 Paul a décidé de revenir à ses racines à St-Boniface en 2007. Il a acheté son condo au 500 Taché où il a résidé de façon autonome jusqu'à l'âge de presque 100 ans. Il a par la suite emménagé au Foyer Valade où il a vécu jusqu'à son décès.
Papa a toujours fait de sa famille le centre de sa vie et il était au comble du bonheur lorsqu'entouré des siens. Il a été profondément aimé et nous manque beaucoup mais nous chérissons nos nombreux bons souvenirs de lui et sommes réconfortés de savoir qu'il est allé retrouver sa douce Françoise.
Les funérailles se tiendront à la Cathédrale Saint- Boniface, 180 ave. de la Cathédrale le 10 Septembre 2021 à 10 h. Il sera par la suite enterré au cimetière St. Boniface auprès de ses parents et de Françoise. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Paul on May 18, 2020, at Actionmarguerite - St. Vital, at the age of 101 years.
Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Françoise (née Tremblay) as well as his two brothers, Jean and Gérard.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Claude (Claire), Paulette (Ken), Yvonne (Norm), Marc (Violanda) and Monique, along with his 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Paul was born and raised in St. Boniface, MB where he showed as a young boy a talent for the game of hockey, playing at various levels right up to the Senior league with the Moose Jaw Millers playing on a line with Elmer Lach. Papa passed up two invitations to attend training camps for both the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers. He always told us that was the best decision he ever made as he would not have met the love of his life Françoise whom he married on September 27, 1945.
He started working for the CPR after high school making his way up within the ranks of CP's tariff bureau until he was offered a transfer to Montreal in 1966 to eventually head up the Canadian Freight Association as it's Chairman. Papa was always involved with some type of volunteering, from his time with the Cercle Ouvrier in St. Boniface to his extensive work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Montreal. He was also involved with the Montreal Traffic Club where he served as President in 1976.
Papa retired from the railways in 1984 after 48 and a half years of service. Papa enjoyed his retirement playing golf in Montreal in the summer and enjoying winters with Maman in Florida with all the Tremblay in-laws. He continued volunteering with the SSVP well into his 80s.
After Maman's passing in 2004, Papa decided at age 88 to return to his roots in 2007 purchasing his condo at 500 Tache in St. Boniface where he resided until he was a few months shy of his 100th birthday. Papa then moved to Foyer Valade where he resided until his passing.
Papa's family was always at the center of his life and he was happiest when surrounded by them. He was much loved and is deeply missed but we are warmed by our many wonderful memories of him and are comforted by the thought that he is once again with his beloved Françoise.
Paul's funeral will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Boniface Cathedral, 180 Avenue de la Cathédrale, followed by a burial at the St. Boniface Cemetery with his parents and Françoise.
