DANIEL ODIDISON
April 10, 1946 - September 20, 2021

It is with great sadness that the Odidison family announce the sudden passing of Daniel Sadadi Odidison. Daniel was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law and friend.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Gwendolyn Odidison, and their five children, Kenneth, Pamela, Beatrice, Elaine and Marjorie and their spouses; his many siblings around the globe including Augustine, Captain Sonny (Nigeria), Victor, Toyobor, Misan, Franklin (Winnipeg) and their wives and children, his 11 grandchildren, and his beloved church family at New Anointing Christian Fellowship.
Born on April 10, 1946 in Sapele, Delta State, Nigeria, Daniel Odidison was an exceptional student, and athlete, which led to a professional soccer career. Upon immigrating to Canada in 1973, Daniel married Gwendolyn, received a degree in Criminology from the University of Winnipeg and started his career with Corrections Canada, which lasted 29 years.
Daniel loved travelling, cooking for family and friends, spoiling his grandchildren, and photography. Passionate about capturing memories and treasured moments, Daniel never left home without his trusted camera, and was hired for countless events. Charming, energetic and personable, Daniel was everyone's best friend and cherished his family, and church family above all. He honoured God, and lived a life that touched many. He will forever be missed and never, ever forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to Jehovah Jireh Children's Ministry through the NACFwinnipeg.com website.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we have reached the capacity allowed for indoor gatherings for Daniel's service. On Wednesday, October 6, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. there will be a Memorial Ceremony at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main Street. • Dan was much more than just a co-worker, he was a friend. I had the pleasure of working with Dan on Unit 3 for several years. One of many lessons I learnt from Dan was the way he was firm but caring. He taught me to listen and not judge. He treated everyone with respect no matter if he was talking to staff or an inmate. I have many stories of Dan and will gladly tell them with a smile on my face. What a wonderful celebration of life! Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to watch it. You will never be forgotten. God bless you Dan! - Posted by: James (Co-Worker) on: Oct 07, 2021

  • We are sending our condolences to the Odidison family on the passing of Dan. Some of us have shared laughter, conversation and good times with Dan, which too quickly passed. We hope that fond memories of Dan remain with you always. Antoinette Zloty and Jean - Posted by: Antoinette Zloty (Family Friend ) on: Oct 05, 2021

  • Bro Dan will forever be remembered as a lively, personable, giving and caring human being. He was a gift to humanity. A gift I know will live on in the values he instilled in his children and those close to him. Forever in our hearts... our Beloved Bro Dan. See you in the morning. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Joy Pinnock (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2021

  • My condolences to all of you. I hope that I will take a page out of Dan's book and be as upbeat and so full of life as he was. We had wonderful talks and I enjoyed every visit we had together. May God rest his soul. Pat - Posted by: Patricia Shymko (Manager of Seven Oaks Gardens) on: Sep 27, 2021

  • I always will remember Dan at work. He always had a smile and never turned down overtime. I had such a positive attitude about life in general. Afterwards his brother T joined our service and with same attitude. Clearly this family was raised very well. I am sad for his family to lose such a great person, but he will always be with us has long as we think of him. RIP Brother I was honoured to have worked beside you. - Posted by: Frank Filbert (Co-worker) on: Sep 26, 2021

  • My sincere condolences to the Odidison family and friends. My heart goes out to all of you as you deal with this incredible loss. As a new Parole Officer back in the early 1990's I was fortunate to be assigned Dan as one of my CX-II's and have him help me as I adjusted to carrying an inmate caseload. Dan had so much insight and so many stories that he never hesitated to share with me. Dan was always such a positive person and was always willing to mentor staff. It is no wonder that he was presented with the Exemplary Service Award and I was proud to receive mine alongside him. The last time I saw him was about four years ago when I spotted his car parked in his driveway in behind my sister-in-law's apartment block. I hadn't seen Dan in a number of years because I had retired in 2010 so I knew that I had to knock on his door and say hello. He greeted me in his usual way "Hello my sister" and insisted that I had to come in and meet his wife. Dan was someone who had a huge impact on so many people as evidenced by all of the tributes posted on Facebook. It is just heartbreaking that after all of his years of hard work that he passed so soon and didn't live to enjoy a long retirement. Dan will be truly missed by all. - Posted by: Alyce Hnatiuk (Former co-worker) on: Sep 25, 2021
