It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather Bert Obirek on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the age of 92. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rick (Rose), Rob (Leanna), Michelle (Don), Lori (Rob), and Grant (Donna); 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, as well and his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, June.
The family is immensely grateful that Bert was able to move to the Grace Hospice during the final two weeks of his life. He was able to visit in person with his loved ones he hadn't seen due to the pandemic restrictions. He was always very social and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of a large family. Bert mentioned in his last week that being surrounded by family and hearing everyone's voices together again brought him great comfort and happiness.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Grace Hospice for their professional care and compassion. Their kindness and understanding helped Bert and his family through this difficult time.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private service will be held at Holy Ghost Church on Thursday, November 18, at 10:00 a.m. The service will be live streamed at www.holyghost.ca.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Michelle, Lori, Rick, Rob, Grant and the entire family. There are many cherished memories of gatherings at the farm and all the fun and games that were had. Uncle Bert was always smiling, cheerful and positive and this drew everyone to him. I’m sure Uncle Bert and Aunt June are so happy dancing in heaven now. Until we meet again. God keep you in his care. 🙏 - Posted by: Heather & Barrie Kidd (Niece) on: Nov 18, 2021

I had the pleasure of knowing Bert for 10 years while he resided at the Canoe Club. Bert was a ray of sunshine, always offering a good word and a warm smile when he greeted you. I personally enjoyed our time together over the years talking about gardening, the news, and sports. Go Jets Go! He will be greatly missed by all of the residents and staff alike. Our deepest condolences to the entire Obirek Family. - Posted by: Jenna Moore (Friend) on: Nov 17, 2021
I was just sharing a memory with cousin Michelle the other day about a favourite memory I have of her dad. It was at my wedding when the first polka was played and I went to ask Uncle Bert to dance with me. He was one of the best polka dancers! So light on his feet! We were flying on the dance floor! I hope he is dancing in heaven now with Aunty June and warming up the dance floor with my dad and Aunty Jean and Baba & Jaja until we all meet again one day. - Posted by: Pam & Ken Wazney (Niece) on: Nov 16, 2021
I am so sorry to hear of Bert’s passing. I saw him not long ago on his scooter at the Canoe Club. He had made many friends there including myself and my mother. It is a true loss but I know that he has reunited with his beloved June. You will be missed Bert! - Posted by: Jackie Cantin (Former employee at the Canoe Club ) on: Nov 16, 2021
