SHANNON DAWN COUGHLIN
October 21, 1954 - November 26, 2021
Shannon leaves to mourn her passing her son Blaine Coughlin and daughter-in-law Vanessa Nowostawski; her grandson Declan Coughlin, mother-in-law Verna (Brown) Coughlin; brother Glen Iwanoczko, wife Sue and family. She will be missed by her many Coughlin family relatives, as well as the Iwanoczko and Kazuk families. She was predeceased by her father Karl Iwanoczko; mother Marion Iwanoczko; and husband for 40 years, Leslie John Coughlin.
Shannon's greatest love was her family. She married Leslie John Coughlin in 1980, followed by the birth of their only child Blaine in 1982. She was recently blessed with her first grandchild, Declan of whom she was extremely proud. She was sure to keep in touch with everyone on a regular basis and often acted as the glue that held together the family bonds. Shannon spent 41 years with the Government of Canada, most recently as general manager of the Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre. She was a strong advocate for the small business community and was well know and respected by colleagues and clients. Shannon also loved her Scottish Terriers. Not only owning several, but also collecting Scottie memorabilia from all over the world. Her other passion was for gardening as was clear by her award-winning yard. Shannon was awarded her Master Gardener certification just before her passing.
A private family viewing will take place 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. Covid protocols require all in attendance be fully vaccinated, only those who can show proof of vaccination and government issued ID will be permitted to attend.

I am so so sad to hear of Shannon's parting only now...but grateful to our network of friends and colleagues to have seen a note in remembrance of her. I so treasured our visits together in her office when I came to Winnipeg on business, and then our long distance calls to catch up. God Bless the family and the memory of an amazing, passionate human. - Posted by: Sabina Posadziejewski (Friend) on: Jun 01, 2022

I’m in shock and tears. I only learned this moment of Shannon’s passing in November. We met decades ago when I left Ottawa to work, for a few months, with Shannon in Winnipeg at the Business Service Centre. We had a great time and together we were able to begin the work at that Centre that Shannon made into a success. We had remained friends ever since. Shannon had a few loves - Les, Blaine, her new grandson and her family. Then her dogs and her gardening. She was a wonderful host and I enjoyed many dinners during my time in Winnipeg. The world has lost a wonderful gal! I will miss her laughter so much. My deepest condolences to Blaine and the family. Rest In Peace, my friend - reunited with Les and your Mum in Dad in heaven.💔 - Posted by: Sheila (Watkins) Bryan (Friend) on: Jan 02, 2022

Shannon was an absolute gem of a person. Her kindness & compassion for people & animals (especially Scotties) was heartfelt & wonderful. We both loved red lipsticks & always shared humorous stories & antics. I am very sorry for your hearts & loss. Shannon's memory will always be treasured by those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her & her lovely smile & good humor. - Posted by: Karen HW (McMahon) (Former staff) on: Dec 31, 2021

I am heartbroken to have to say goodbye to my friend of 47 years and so happy I had just had an opportunity to spend some time with her. I am so sorry Blaine, for your loss and my my deepest condolences to you and all of your family. Shannon leaves us with a long list of accomplishments and an even longer list of friends and admirers and I will forever miss her welcoming hospitality and her incredible sense of humour. My thoughts and prayers as you go through the coming days. - Posted by: Joan Mackay (Lifetime friend ) on: Dec 16, 2021

Glen, Blaine and families I am still so heart broken and saddened with the passing of Shannon. She kept the family in the know and we had been chatting over the last couple years and I will miss those chats all about our families. She was loved and will be missed by so many. There has been so much loss in your family in the past year. It gives me comfort that she will be with Auntie Marion, Uncle Karl and Les and the many other relatives that have been taken from us way too early. I wish I was closer that I could be there with you all, but know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending all my love <3 Denise xoxox - Posted by: Denise Stapleton nee Iwanoczko (cousin ) on: Dec 04, 2021

Words cannot express my sadness for your loss, Blaine, and the rest of the family. I have many fond memories of Shannon over the years, especially when she would stay with Kathryn in Redditt at Races and then the Hideaway - she made us all laugh so hard! She was kind and loving and will be forever missed! - Posted by: Jennifer Hofley (Friend) on: Dec 03, 2021

I am so sad to hear of Shannon's passing. I'd known her thru the Scottie community since the 1990's. She was such a kind and loving person. The world is a little darker without her in it. - Posted by: Hill, Julie (Friend) on: Dec 02, 2021

Dear Blaine and Family, There is so little we can say to ease your sorrow at this time. It came as a shock, needless to say. We were in touch with Shannon two days previous and rec'd some beautiful pictures of Declan and how proud she was of her grandson! You have endured so much over the last year and a half......grandpa Karl in March, dad Les in Oct., Grandma Marian in Nov. and now your dear Mom. We are thinking of you, Vanessa and Declan with sincerest sympathy and love. We extend sympathy to Shannon's brother Glen, Sue and family also. I am so sorry to hear of Shannon's sudden passing. I was Shannon's admin assistant for a year when my boss was away on French Language Training. Shannon took over as A/Director for Client Services at Western Diversification. She would leave surprises of flower or heart-shaped sticky notes. When she borrowed my ink stamp pad, she returned it decorated with purple and pink rhinestone hearts. She was a passionate hard worker, very personable and witty. We could talk shop and then discuss the best red lipstick and black eyeliner. Her eyes would light up speaking of her family. She would have been so smitten with a new grandson. My deepest condolences to Blaine, Vanessa and Declan. - Posted by: Brenda Letain (Former Colleague & Friend) on: Dec 01, 2021

Shannon and I became friends through our volunteering with the Master Gardener Association and our shared love of gardening. She was an amazing lady, so knowledgeable in many things and had the know how to back it up. She would make me laugh so much with her quick wit and one liners. I am grateful for the friendship we shared, albeit too short. I send my thoughts and prayers to all the family at this most difficult time. Taken from all of us too soon. God speed Shannon, I will miss you. - Posted by: Diane Daignault (Friend ) on: Dec 01, 2021

Shannon and I worked together through the Canada Business Service Centre. I was based in Edmonton and travelled to Winnipeg many times and got to know Shannon. We retired about the same time and have kept in touch mostly through Facebook. Her wealth and breadth of knowledge about all things gardening was a wonder to behold. My husband, Don, and Shannon had many conversations about gardening, with me as an outsider. They shared a love for Asiatic lilies and our last phone conversation was about a month ago when Don sought her advice on over-wintering lily bulbs. We talked about her beloved dog, Agatha, her new kitten and her voice was full of love when she spoke about her grandson. You could hear the pride and love in her voice. We are shocked and saddened by her sudden death. We have comfort in knowing she was welcomed into heaven by her parents and her beloved husband, Les. - Posted by: Fran Weekes (friend) on: Nov 30, 2021

Shannon and I worked together for many years. We became close friends over the years and enjoyed spending time together. It was a total shock to hear of Shannon's passing and far too soon. She ranted and raved over her Grandson, sharing proud pictures of him. Our heart goes out to you Blaine, Vanessa and Declan. Our deepest sympathy and prayers to the family. - Posted by: Marilyn & Jeff Sippel (Friends) on: Nov 30, 2021

We are very saddened to hear about Shannon’s passing. She was a great friend and former colleague who has contributed enormously to the development and prosperity of Manitoba’s business community through the Canada Business Services Centre that she had founded and directed for many years. Our condolences to her son and the family. May her memory be eternal. - Posted by: Charles Hatzipanayis (Friend and former colleague ) on: Nov 30, 2021

My condolences and prayers for the family. May the departed one always be at peace. I am saddened to hear of this news. It has been some years since I have met or interacted with Shannon. However in the 1990s, arising from the Global Connections Project, I interacted and worked with her. In her own way, she contributed to the success of the project. On a personal note, she gave me an opportunity to present workshops on International Trade and Marketing and, to qualify as vendor, I set up my company. She was certainly a friend. - Posted by: Anupam Sharma (Friend and Associate ) on: Nov 30, 2021
