It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of Johanna Bakker on November 26, 2021.
Johanna was predeceased by her loving husband Antonius (Tony) Bakker in 2012. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Robert (Marie); daughters, Anita (Neil), Shirley (Gerald) and Linda (Darren); grandchildren, Meaghen, Laura (Michel), Briana (Michael), Amber (Geoff), Kara (Duke), Mathew (Brittany), Eric, Emily (David), Jenna and Justin, and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brothers, Peter, Casey (Nellie), Walter (Anne) and Adri (Liz), all who were dear to her heart.
Johanna was born on October 8, 1934 in Goirle, The Netherlands and immigrated to Canada with her parents and brothers in 1949. She met Tony and they were married in November 1954, working hard to build a life together and raising their family in Transcona.
Johanna was an extraordinary lady of many talents which included oil colouring, black and white photographs, sewing, gardening, canning, baking, poetry and oil painting. She had a small greenhouse where every year she would start her bedding plants and vegetables, always planting more than she needed so she could share them with her family. Her yard was meticulous and brought her a lot of joy as she sat in her greenhouse, enjoyed the view and began thinking about what she would grow the following year. She was a self-taught oil painter and gifted many with her fine artwork. Above all, she was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family. We were all so fortunate to call her "ours".
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the kind staff on Cornish 5 at the Misericordia Health Centre for their compassionate care.
In keeping with Johanna's wishes, a private ceremony has been held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada.
