(Oma, Mutti)

Peacefully, on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, Mom passed away at Riverview Health Centre one week short of her 92nd birthday.
She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Ernst Laube in February 2000.
Hildegard immigrated to Canada in 1954, with husband Ernst and son, Rolf, and began to build a life here. She was blessed with two more sons, Winfried (Donna), Harold (Krystyna), six grandchildren, Douglas and Theresa (Rolf and Pat), Trevor and Julie (Winfried and Donna), and the twins, Ashleigh and Jonathan (Harold and Krystyna). She has a great-grandson, Jacob (Douglas) from Arizona and treasured her relationship with great-granddaughter, Kaydence Cummings (Trevor) in Winnipeg, with whom she had an affectionate close bond. She loved and admired her niece, Doris (John) remaining close even after they moved to Calgary.
She challenged herself to learn a new language while also working as a seamstress and became a Canadian Citizen. She was a great cook, feeding us German dishes like Rouladen and Goulash. Dessert was often Rote Grütze with Vanilla sauce topping. Made with love, she baked traditional cakes and her grandchildren helped with Christmas sugar cookies complete with icing and sprinkles.
Harold and Win looked forward to their weekly visits with her to have lunch and play Skat - a German card game that is both challenging and hard to master. She kept her mind sharp by doing sudoku, logic and jigsaw puzzles. Her body was slowly getting weaker over the years, but her mind stayed very strong.
Oma travelled a lot on her own and with family, taking her two sons to Germany twice.
The love and encouragement from Oma, was felt by everyone as she was often in the stands cheering at sporting events, in the audience for school functions, and present at many other family activities and milestones.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society, or in memory of her beloved dog, Jessie, to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
