RHEAL PAINCHAUD
September 15, 1948 - May 7, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Rhéal Painchaud announces his passing on May 7, 2021.
He will be fondly remembered by his loving wife Diane of 40 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Gustave (Estelle Cadieux and Arthémise Alarie), his stepsister Joyce (Ken), father and mother-in-law, Lucien and Marguerite Painchaud, brothers-in-law, Louis Painchaud (Pat) and Francis Fontaine. He is survived by his brothers, Constant (Irène), Lionel (Ligaya), brother-in-law Roland (Mika), sisters-in-law, Yvonne, Monique (Robert), Aline (Greg), Cécile (François) and Phil, Brenda, Adrianna (Alex), William and Jayda; as well as many nieces and nephews.
They met at what was once called the Rendez-Vous restaurant in Saint Boniface. Rhéal approached Diane and asked her to go see a movie. They saw Romeo and Juliet - how romantic. After dating for a while, they got married at Saint Bernadette Church on June 28, 1980. Diane and Rhéal had a very special relationship. He was a very funny man and enjoyed teasing Diane a lot. He loved Diane's cooking very much. He liked to call her Dee Dee and referred to her as a Hollywood movie star. After attending University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba, he received his BA and his B.Ed. He went on to teach full time at Isaac Brock High School for many years. In his later years, he was a substitute teacher at several high schools. He was well regarded by his students. Reading was one of his favourite pastimes. He was very passionate when conversing with friends, family, students and colleagues on many subjects such as history and politics. He was a long time standing member of the YMCA in Saint Vital. In his younger years, he played football but later liked watching football and baseball where he enjoyed eating his sunflower seeds. He was a member of Saint Bernadette Parish where he sat on the board and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He will be sadly missed.
Funeral service will be held on May 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Bernadette Church at 820 Cottonwood Road.
