FORSYTHE: Mary, age 97 years, passed away at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. The second oldest of twelve, Mary was born to William and Alexandra Wiwad on April 5, 1925 in Sunland County, Alberta. She was raised on the farm in Central Alberta, and due to her mother's illness, left school at an early age to help raise her brothers and sisters. Mary started working as kitchen help in Alberta as a teenager until she moved to Manitoba in the mid 1940s. While working at the Lycium Café in Brandon, Mary met her future husband Mac, whom she married in November 1948. Mac and Mary lived in Souris for a short while before returning to Brandon to raise their boys Bob and Rick. Mary then worked at the Brandon YWCA for about 15 years before retiring. Mary was a proud and active member of the Order of the Royal Purple from the 1960s until the lodge's closure in Brandon. Her services included fundraising, afternoon teas at local care homes, catering and many social events. Mary's long tenure with the Royal Purple also included terms as Secretary, Treasurer and Honored Royal Lady. Mary also enjoyed countless hours of crafting, including projects in cross stitch, crocheting, fabric painting and ceramics. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son Rick (Dawn); grandchildren Jon (Rae-Lynn), Dan (Angela), Teresa, Matthew and Chase; great grandchildren Alexandra, Paige, Monica, Ethan, Olivia, Cayden, Devin and Keane; great great grandson Levi; siblings Lena (Ed), Gladys and Donald (Joanne); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her ever-loving husband Perry "Mac"; son Robert "Bob"; parents William and Alexandra; brothers Steve, John, Peter, Metro, Eugene, Sandy and Nickolas; and sister Sophia. A private graveside service was held at the Brandon Cemetery.
