SONJA ANGIE BAERT
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sonja Angie Baert on August 1, 2022 at the age of 81 years.
Sonja will be sadly missed by her husband Lorne; her children, Michael and Carolyn (Scott) and her grandchildren, Derek, Dylan, Dana, Melissa and Lindsay.
Sonja was born on October 8, 1940, the youngest of three children of Edward and Angelina Hargot and was raised in the Weston neighbourhood of Winnipeg.
After attending Tec Voc High School, Sonja began working for a Winnipeg Optician where, through a phone call order, she met the love of her life. Sonja and Lorne were married on August 13, 1960.
Sonja loved to travel. Family trips to BC, California, Florida and Hawaii always held special shared memories. Sonja and Lorne continued their love of travel together to many destinations, but their favourite was always Hawaii.
In her spare time, Sonja enjoyed sewing, petit point and playing cards. Her specialty was the beautiful Halloween costumes that she made for her children and grandchildren.
Above all else, Sonja was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed every moment she could spend with her family.
Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Concordia Hospital and The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their care, compassion and support.
We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to our cousin, Louise Embury, for her kindness and help in Sonja's care.
Memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Desjardins Funeral Home, 357 DesMeurons Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Spirit of Hope Rescue at https://spiritofhoperescue.ca/ or Popcorns & Binkies Rescue Haven https://www.popcornsandbinkies.org/
