Born: Sep 09, 1924
Date of Passing: Sep 14, 2022
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFARLEY: Hazel Jean. September 9, 1924 September 14, 2022. Hazel passed away at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home, Brandon. Born in Brandon to Alexander "Alex" and Isabella "Bella" Fraser; she was the eldest of five children. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Basil, her daughter Donna and son Ian, her parents Alex and Bella Fraser and other siblings and in-laws. She is survived by her sons Grant (Donna), Fraser (Laurel), Ross (Cherylee), and daughters Connie (Ron), and Penny and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. As a child, Hazel was active in 4-H. She enjoyed music, sports, picnics, and community barn dances. In 1944, Hazel married Basil Farley of Douglas. After Hazel was married, she lived on the Farley family farm near Douglas until moving to Brandon the early 2000's. Hazel was devoted to her family and her community, spending countless hours in service to her community through the Women's Institute, the Douglas United Church, and the Douglas Rink. Hazel had a good ear and could pick up a song merely by hearing. She played piano for the annual Douglas Elementary School Christmas concert. Hazel was an outstanding cook. Like most women of her era, Hazel had many obligations and duties in the home and community, but she was progressive in her thinking, and supporter of women's rights. She believed in women making their own choices and having a voice. Enjoyment for Hazel was found in the simple things: family, community, crocheting, Ian bringing her a bouquet of crocuses or marsh marigolds. She worked hard and lived a good life. The Farley family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff and volunteers at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home for their care and support of our mom. We appreciate your hard work and dedication in providing a comfortable home for our mom during her final years. Hazel was laid to rest at Madford Cemetery on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 with Mike Waddell officiating. Following the service, a reception was held at the Douglas Community Hall. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Madford Cemetery, c/o Box 224, Douglas, MB R0K 0R0.
