IRENE SPROLL
March 12, 1928 – November 23, 2022

It is with sadness that we announce that Irene Sproll passed away on the morning of Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
Irene leaves to mourn her children Karl (Dianne), Ursula (Maurice), Barbara and Norman (Cathie), her grandchildren Karl (Dawn), Erik (Kristel), Ingrid (Somto), Erin (Dan), Adrienne (Tim), Justin (Marla), Nathan (Sarah) and Alexa, and 21 great-grandchildren.
Irene is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Karl, and her much loved daughter Katherine.
Irene was born in Dresden, Germany where she started her training as a nurse. She immigrated to Winnipeg in 1952 where she met, fell in love and married Karl. She was an excellent nurse at the Childrens' Hospital and St. Amant Centre known for her hard work, determination, resilience and passion. Irene exemplified perseverance, organization, methodical thoroughness, cleanliness and doing things the "right" way. She was a great homemaker, baker and cook. Irene strongly encouraged her children, especially her daughters, to pursue post-secondary education and professional careers. She loved babies, travel, and reading. Her passion was reflected in her exuberance and laughter. Above all Irene was a devoted mother. All that she did in life was for the wellbeing of her husband and children. Irene's greatest pride and happiness came from watching her family grow and flourish. We have been blessed to have Irene, mother and Oma, as a guide and role model in our lives and she will be very much missed.
Many thanks to the staff of The Waverley and Riverview Health Centre.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Parish, 847 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg on Wednesday, November 30, at 11:30 a.m.

So do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Irene's name to Riverview Health Centre or a charity of your choice.

  • She was the last survivor of this generation of the Hermann family. She lost one brother in WWII. The other, my father died more than 30 years ago in Stutgart, Germany. So sorry that I never made it to see her in Winnipeg. My condolences to all my cousins and their families. - Posted by: Uli Hermann (Nephew) on: Jan 03, 2023

  • I am sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Sproll. I have fond memories of spending time at her home when I was a child. I spent many hours playing in the basement with Katherine and enjoying the rabbits in the yard. I always looked forward to her homemade soup. Your family is in my thoughts. - Posted by: Janet Clark (Former Neighbour) on: Dec 01, 2022

  • Sending condolences to the Sproll family. Irene was our neighbour in St. Vital and the her children used to babysit my children. She was a lovely lady. May she RIP! - Posted by: Linda Sloane (Former neighbour) on: Nov 26, 2022
