LILLIAN MART
(NOVOTNI)

April 21, 1936 - January 19, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lillian, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who passed away peacefully and with dignity (as she led her life) at Health Sciences Centre (HSC), with her loving family holding vigil.
She leaves to mourn her sons, Alan (Madeleine), Brad (Connie), and Chris (Christine); grandchildren, Curtis, Holly, Rob and Pat; and great-grandchild Briawna and her brother Ed. Lil was predeceased by her husband Bob, of 64 years, sister Emily and parents, Josip and Fanika Novotni.
Lil was born in the RM of Springfield, raised there and in Winnipeg. She had a long career at Elmwood Elementary School in Altona, MB working in clerical where she and Bob had moved, then later returning to Winnipeg in retirement. She led an active life volunteering, regular donator of plasma, making craft dolls/bears and in later years enjoying time with her dear friends at the apartment. Mom was a kind, gentle and beautiful soul, with a quiet strength to enjoy life and see it through, who will be dearly missed. Love you, Mom.
Special thanks to the staff at HSC for their care and compassion.
As per Lil's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service for family will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Condolences to the Mart family on the loss of Lil. My husband and I worked for Bob from 2002 until 2011 at the condo building in St. Vital. He and Lil went on to become good friends after all of us left the building. Many enjoyable dinners and get togethers with them and my cousin Norm and Ros Carter. We even became neighbors again later on. Your Mom was a very special lady. - Posted by: Carol Delorme (late husband Jim) (Friend ) on: Feb 06, 2023

  • To Chris, Alan and Brad and families. I was shocked today to learn of your mother's passing. I had known your mom and dad since 1982 when I worked with your dad at the Altona Police Department. That is when I first met your mother. Your mom was the most welcoming and gracious host that my wife and I ever had the pleasure to know. And what a wonderful cook she was, renowned by the members of the Police Department. And our wives. Your mother was such a kind and caring and attentive woman. She had a great sense of humour and always made us feel comfortable and important. The last time I saw your mother was at the memorial for your dad that I had the honor of being invited to speak. I know that your mom missed your dad dearly, and although I am saddened at her passing, I take solace in that your mother and father are now together again. Please accept my sincere condolences and know that you are in my thoughts and your mom and dad will forever be in our memory. • Lil, you stepped into the roll of mom as I had just lost mine. I never told you how how grateful I was for that. I never told you as I was dealing with my loss. You were loved although you probably didn’t know it. Rest well. My condolences to my daughter Holly and my granddaughter Briawna. Much love to you both as you grieve the loss of a wonderful woman. • Lill was a lovely woman and very kind and caring. I only met her a few times because we live in BC but when I did see her she was so friendly and easy to talk to. I think her favourite subject was her family that she loved so much. - Posted by: Diane Karpinsky (Bob's ( Lill's) cousin) on: Jan 28, 2023

  • Grandma, I love you. Every moment spent with you was a moment of comfort. You emanated warmth and love. I'm so thankful for the time we spent together the day before you left this world. My hope is your soul has been reunited with grandpa. There are no words to describe how much I will miss you. - Posted by: Holly (Granddaughter) on: Jan 28, 2023
