SHIRLEY MUIR
October 27, 1930 - January 11, 2023

It is with deep sadness and sense of loss we announce that Shirley Muir has left us to join the heavenly chorus.
Shirley recognized and celebrated the magic in life and in people. She was dynamic and passionate, she carried laughter and humour with her until her final moments.
A lifelong Winnipeg resident, Shirley grew up on Dominion Street with her sister Gayle, the daughters of Bert and Eileen Brown. Shirley met her husband Al Muir at Gore Mutual where they both worked. Married in 1954 they soon moved to Windsor Park where they first lived on Cherry Crescent and then Greenwich Bay. Windsor Park was a wonderful place for Shirley and Al to raise their children, Bob, Marylou, and Jamie. A natural born sales person Shirley tried her hand at various ventures over the years, everything from selling wigs, to renting out TVs in hospitals to personal care products.
Shirley loved to sing and was a lifelong member of the Winnipeg Sweet Adelines, where she participated in Assiniboine Chorus annual shows, travelled to competitions, and was a solid bass in many performing barbershop quartets with her sister Gayle.
Shirley and Al would go to their cabin in Sandy Hook in the summers. They were a few doors down from their dear friends Ab and Joyce Forth and just a few kilometers from Gayle and Mike Wharton's cabin. They had some memorable vacations to Honolulu with friends and family and fell in love with all things Hawaii so much she would decorate the cabin and even her house with a Hawaiian theme. She liked bingo, horror movies, cats and dogs with funny faces, party games and a good joke!
With a gift for making people around her feel special and welcome Shirley was always up for a gathering of friends or family and could absolutely be a life of the party. She would also enjoy sitting quietly and listening to the waves of Lake Winnipeg or the birds singing or just watching a sunset or a rainbow.
Predeceased by husband Al Muir and daughter Marylou. Shirley was a grandmother to eight grandchildren and great-grandmother to 18 great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to all the staff at the Bethania Personal Care Home that provided such special care and a wonderful facility for Mom to live in over these last years.
A Celebration of Life for Shirley will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 455 Lagimodière Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB.
