DONALD WEIDMAN
July 30, 1929 - February 3, 2023
Donald passed away peacefully in his sleep.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Audrey Weidman; his children, Cathy (Marty Cole) and Richard (Lisa Weidman) and his 5 grandchildren who he adored, Rachel, Bram, Joshua, Leah and Jacob. He was predeceased by his parents, Eve and Bert Weidman and brothers, David (Sheila Weidman) and Lyon (Carol Weidman).
Donald was born and lived his entire life in Winnipeg. He began working at an early age at Weidman Brothers and remained in the food distribution business for his working career which lasted until close to his 90th birthday. In business he had a reputation of being honest, sincere, hard working and always looking after his customers.
Family was always number one in Donald's life, beginning with his wife Audrey who he treasured and adored. He was a wonderful and devoted father and the best Zaida to his grandchildren. His cousins and many friends were a priority and will always remember his infectious smile.
Donald was so proud to share the story of his family who arrived in Winnipeg in 1882, one of the first Jewish families to come to Winnipeg. Donald loved his summers at Winnipeg Beach, especially when joined by his family and friends. The highlight of his day was to take his grandchildren for ice cream at Dairybee and some fun at Playland. Donald was an active member of Shaarey Zedek Synagogue and the Winnipeg Jewish Community and served as president of Glendale Golf and Country Club.
The family would like to thank Jorge for his loving and compassionate care over this last year and a half.
Burial was held Sunday, February 5 at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Mass. Pallbearers were his five grandchildren and Max Polinsky.
Donations can be made to the Audrey and Donald Weidman fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.

As a young representative of a major food processor I remember calling on Don and brother David at their warehouse on Adelaide Street - many decades ago. I was always impressed by their professional approach and courtesy and thankful for their support of the products I represented. Always the gentlemen. Good memories.
