Offer Condolences or Memory CATHERINE JOYCE STERDAN
May 22, 1955 – February 6, 2023
We are sad to announce the passing of our wife, mom, grandma, aunt, niece, cousin, sister-in-law, and friend, Cathy Sterdan.
Cathy is survived by her husband Michael, daughters, Julie (Eddie) and Tracy (Jamie), and grandsons, Ashton, Jack, and Nicholas.
Cathy was born, raised, and enjoyed life and shopping in Winnipeg. She attended Lansdowne, Andrew Mynarski and Sisler schools. Growing up she enjoyed playing the piano, singing, and participating in school musicals and Luther League.
In 1973 Cathy married Mike, the love of her life and they began their journey together. Cathy was a stay at home family manager in the early years. When the girls were in school full time, she went on to build a 28 year career as an Educational Assistant first at Wolseley School and then Meadows West School. Here she guided many students and built lifelong friendships with staff.
Giving back to the community was important to Cathy. She spent many years as a Brownie leader and church council member. She also enjoyed organizing the canteen at school sports tournaments and was a willing organizer of pancake breakfasts and the annual graduation celebration.
Cathy's greatest gift and joy was celebrating family. She loved recognizing birthdays, her children's special moments and every holiday. Often it included extended family and of course the pets.
A celebration of Cathy's life will be held on Friday, February 17, 6:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Ave. The service will be live-streamed and can be viewed from the Grace Lutheran Facebook page or website: gracelutheran.ca/videos
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Luther Home, 1081 Andrews St., Winnipeg, MB or Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
