PETER HUSBAND
September 15, 1941 - February 11, 2023
As he wished, Peter aged 81, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
He is the beloved husband of Rosalind (nee Chambers). He will be missed by daughter Sue (Don Taylor) and grandchildren, André (Kathryn) and Ravon Laframboise. He was predeceased by sons, Peter Jr. and Michael, parents, Peter and Hilda, brothers-in-law, Ron White and Bob Kent, sister-in-law Doris Grauman and her husband Alfred, niece Lana Bourque and nephew Gregory Grauman. He is survived by his sister Edna Kent of Toronto, and her children, Triff and Tim White, and relatives in England.
Peter was born in Truro, Cornwall, England. After the war, he immigrated with his parents to Toronto. While in the Canadian Army he was posted to Winnipeg where he met and married Rosalind in 1963. Upon discharge, he studied diesel mechanics at Red River Community College, apprenticing with Powell Equipment in Thunder Bay and Winnipeg. He enjoyed his 27 year career with the Manitoba Highways and Transportation Department, retiring at the end of 1999. For over twenty years Peter and his friends from Highways met for coffee once a month.
Peter and Rosalind enjoyed many trips across Canada visiting family and friends along the way. In 2001 they lived in Leicester, England for 5 months where they enjoyed the fellowship of St. James the Greater Anglican Church and made lasting friendships. They visited relatives and friends in Cornwall and Oxfordshire, also Peter's model railway friends in Leeds and Nun Eaton. There were many memories made during their tours of the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia, as well as cruising to Alaska and through the Panama Canal. Sailing from New Zealand to home was a special thrill.
In his younger years, Peter was a leader in the Boy's Brigade and later with Cub Scouts Canada. He enjoyed his model railway hobby, exhibiting his Thomas the Tank Engine layout at shows. He was a member of the Grand Trunk Nostalgia Club, Hornby Railway Collectors Association and the British Railway Modellers of North America. He especially loved spending as much time as possible at the cottage in Grand Marais where he was able to relax and "get away from it all". He curled for several years with the seniors at the Wildewood Club. He also enjoyed seniors' courses at the University of Winnipeg, especially those focusing on music.
Thanks to Drs. A. Matteliano, A. Ong, J. Saranchuck, C. Richardson and the staff of GH3 at HSC for the support we received. A special thanks to Dr. Sheldon Permack who provided Peter's health care for many years. Thank you also to the staff of the WRHA Home Care and Palliative Care programs for their compassion and caring.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Palliative Care Manitoba (www.palliativemanitoba.ca) would be appreciated.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday February 23, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Livestreaming of the service will be available on the Thomson "In the Park" website.
