NELL MAZUR

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nell Mazur, on January 31, 2023, at the age of 100. Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Carol and Cheryl. Mom's wish was to remain in her home, where she lived independently up until the final few days, passing peacefully at Concordia Hospital.
Nell was born May 26, 1922, in Lorette, Manitoba, to John and Barbara Siwicki. She was the youngest of three children, a sibling to sister Anne (Romaniuk) and brother Michael (Siwicki). She attended St. Cuthbert School from age 5 to 14, and at age 18, she left the family farm to move to Winnipeg, where she lived with her aunt and uncle, Roman and Mary Halabicki and cousin Rose. She found employment at United Garments Ltd., until she married her husband Walter ("Wally") Mazur on June 24, 1948. They moved in with Wally's parents until they found their dream home at 443 Webb Place, in 1950, where they remained for the next 32 years. They welcomed daughters, Carol in 1954 and Cheryl in 1958.
For a time, Nell found part-time work at Woolworth's downtown, but after a few years, she moved to the T. Eaton Company, where she worked in jewelry sales for several years to come. She loved meeting people and had a knack for sales and this, along with raising two daughters, kept her extremely busy.
In 1958, Nell and Wally purchased a cottage at Grand Beach, where they met some lifelong friends and filled our lives with many treasured memories. Although Wally passed away in 1984, Nell continued to spend her summers at Grand Beach. She loved her cottage, her long walks, her garden and spending time with her daughters. She spent many years there hosting Happy Hours as well as annual End of Summer dinners. She loved to play cards, but her favourite game was Scrabble, which she played with a gusto up until her passing.
Nell was predeceased by her husband Wally, and her siblings. She is survived by her children and her grandpuppies.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice in Nell's memory.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Carol & Cheryl You had an amazing Mom & she lived a long & happy life. You girls did a great job in abiding by her wishes at being ‘independent‘ in her own home where she had loving memories. I wish I could be there for her Celebration of Life service but we will still be in Palm Springs but we will be there in Spirit. Condolences 🙏 - Posted by: Lorraine Kovachik (Friend) on: Mar 28, 2023
