EDWARD W. DUDYCH
Edward W. Dudych "Swoosh" passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023, at St. Boniface Hospital. Dad, "Eddie", was born August 24, 1935, in Winnipeg. He was the son of Ukrainian immigrants, Annie and Peter Dudych.
Eddie grew up in the Point Douglas area of Winnipeg, attending both Aberdeen and St. John's High School. Eddie excelled at hockey and at age 13 signed the "C form" with the Montreal Canadiens. He went on to star with the St. Boniface Canadiens, Three River Reds and the Montreal Jr. Canadiens. Subsequently he turned pro and played eight years with the Louisville Rebels, two years with Portland Buckaroos, finishing with Nashville Dixie Flyers and Port Huron Flags. Eddie was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
After his hockey career, Eddie was employed with Kraft General Foods in sales, where he thrived. Later, he worked with Agritel Seed before retiring. Eddie was an active member of the St. Vital minor hockey association where he coached both Norberry and St. Vital Victoria's. Eddie thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, especially during the summer months lazing around the pool and spending time at the lake. Cross country skiing and skating were a part of many of his winter months. Eddie loved to travel, spending time in Hawaii and Mexico, and especially the special visits to see son, Jeff, and grandkids in Tennessee.
Eddie is survived by his son, Jeff (Stacy), grandchildren, Reese, Elle and Makenzie, of Tennessee, his daughter, Lori (Kevin), and sisters, Elsie and Iris, all of Winnipeg.
Eddie also cherished his special time with his partner, Marlo Julius.
We wish to thank the St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion.

We played hockey, football, baseball, but when Eddie played, it was like a man playing with kids. He was far the most talented athlete in our area. (Point Douglas) We had a special understanding, because we came from a similar environment. There were also other guys who shared similar backgrounds, unfortunately, many are gone. Eddie was very quiet and let his abilities speak for him, and they spoke very loudly. He also went to Norquay School till end of Jr. high. Great athlete!! After being to 2 Canadiens camps, he spoke of how things went there. He sounded somewhat in awe, after all, this was when the team won 5 Cups!!! - Posted by: Carl Teplitski (old school buddie) on: Mar 25, 2023
