GAYLE AINGE
(nee LESLIE EDNA GAYLE SANDULAK)

February 5, 1953 - March 23, 2023

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved Mom. She fought courageously since February 2022 with a disease that slowed the unstoppable woman. Never giving up, she kept working until mid-June, gardening until September and baking until December. She even saw her cherished Bombers Win at home at her Final Attended Game on September 29, 2022. This was a quick on-set/battle that she never gave up on until there was no hope. She is now no longer suffering and reunited with my dad Jack, her father and brother, Harry and Taras Sandulak, and in-laws, Dave and Grace Ainge.
She leaves behind many family members and friends to keep her memory in their hearts forever; her only child Jillian, brothers, Bill and Nick Sandulak, sisters, Marion and Pauline Sandulak, sister-in law Pamela Ainge, in-laws, Larry Gunn and Sue Mannix, nephews, Roddy and Will Spence, friends, Cheryl and Dennis Braun, Elaine and Tom Raynbird, Lorene and Ken Mahoney, Irene and Jerry Seadon, Maureen and Debbie Anderson, Della Hurley and many, many other extended family and friends who I can't list off or this will be forever long.
She will always be remembered as a kind, generous, helpful, and outgoing person. She loved to bake, do crosswords, sew, and garden. She was a member of the Transcona Legion for well over 30 years, was always ready to go to Bombers and Goldeyes games, loved to be stressed out by our darn Jets and never met a dog she did not love. I know Jagger, Finn, Blanche, Cinnamon, Maggie and Toby are going to miss her a lot, as is Argentina, the kitty who walked all-over her (literally). She wasn't a true cat person but Minnie and Licorice (aka Bad Cat and Good Cat) hissed and purred their way right into her heart. This fight of hers messed them up as hanging at Grandma's every Sunday was their favourite time.
She never wanted drama, always tried to be neutral. Watching curling (live or on TV), going to craft sales (selling or shopping), cheering our Bombers and Goldeyes will never be the same; those were our times that I will never forget.
I want to share my thanks to everyone noted above who helped with Mom's care and home up-keep this last year. I would have never been able to keep my promise to Mom to keep my job and do her tasks without you. Thank you to the staff at Health Sciences Centre GH6 Ward for the wonderful care while she was undergoing treatments and keeping her content in her final days.
In lieu of flowers please donate (in her name) to Winnipeg Humane Society or the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba; those are two charities near and dear to her heart.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date; just like "Another Blue Bomber First Down"!

  • My deepest condolences to Gayle’s family. Gayle was a guest teacher in my classroom many times. I was confident my classes were in good hands. She was a familiar face at our school. She had a great heart and was always friendly and kind and I enjoyed our conversations in the staff room. Her absence from our building was noticed and felt. Rest in peace Gayle. - Posted by: Vanessa Harms (Colleague) on: Mar 29, 2023

  • Dear Jillian, Bill, Marion, Nick, Pauline and family. I was so incredibly shocked and saddened to hear of the recent passing of your beloved mom, sister and aunt, Gayle. I cherish all my childhood memories we created on Colonial Court in the sixties. I remember bopping in the basement with Gayle and Marion, singing our hearts out to The Beatles album, Rubber Soul; baking an angel food cake on a hot summer evening while our mothers chatted on the front porch; and sneaking out the bedroom window during a sleepover to go for a walk when we should have been asleep. Those were the good old days! Gayle was so very mature for her age as demonstrated how lovingly she cared for her younger siblings, a daunting task for any teenager! She was taken far too early. Her wisdom, kindness and gentleness will be missed by all. Lovingly remembered and never forgotten by "Ally Cat" Achron. Condolences to all. - Posted by: Allyson Woroniak (Achron) (Long-time friend) on: Mar 27, 2023

  • My deepest condolences to Gayle’s family and friends! Gayle was a guest teacher for me numerous times at Murdoch in the individualized area. You could always tell that she saw her time there was more than a job but an opportunity to connect and further create community as she arrived with goodies to share and a smile!. She will be greatly missed! - Posted by: Joanne Calver (Colleague ) on: Mar 27, 2023

  • We have missed Gayle this past year as we had come to rely on her almost daily presence at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate! Her steady, kind, and quiet personality made her a favorite substitute with staff and students alike. I personally enjoyed our many conversations. My deepest condolences to the family. - Posted by: Susan Neuendorff (Colleague) on: Mar 26, 2023

  • My sincere condolences Pauline & family. It is so difficult losing a loved one. May all your wonderful memories you shared somehow sustain you in your time of sorrow. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal but love leaves memories no one can steal. To live in the hearts of those you leave behind is to never die and Gayle will live on in all your hearts forever. - Posted by: Marlyn Harding (Friend) on: Mar 26, 2023

  • It was fitting that the skies opened up with a display of such beauty and grandeur, on the evening you passed, my dear sister. You were everything that was good in this world. Spending much of your youth giving care to your 5 younger siblings, you could have been, should have been resentful and bitter, but you never were. The lessons I learned, the choices I have made in my life, come mainly from your love and guidance. I followed in your footsteps of educator, baker, tailor, crafter, lover of dogs and everything the Beatles! Your nephews love you dearly. You will be so sadly missed, Chails! Until we meet again, my dear, sister! - Posted by: Pauline, Roddy, Will, Jagger (Family) on: Mar 26, 2023

  • Jillian... my sincere condolences to you and your extended families. Gayle, a wonderful person, a wonderful friend; there are so many precious memories of the times we spent together. Talking and show and tells (and laughing) about sewing, gardening (a walk around our yards to see how things were growing), her mentioning that spring was on its way, chipping the ice in the back lane so it would melt faster, a quick hello, have a nice day……... Honoured to be Gayle's friend. - Posted by: Della Hurley (Friend / neighbour ) on: Mar 26, 2023

  • Jillian I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was amazing women who was always doing something for others. I worked with your mom at Murdoch and when she heard I had a grandson. There came two boy bibs. One has hockey pucks and other football and soccer balls on it. Just perfect and I will treasure them. She always would bring in cookies for the students and staff plus the recipe to go with it. We are going to miss this angel your mom - Posted by: Cheryl Hauk (Friend ) on: Mar 25, 2023
