On March 31 after a brief illness, our dear husband, father and uncle passed away.
Norman was born in Gooderham, ON. At the age of 17 he left home to join the Canadian Armed Forces. While stationed in CFB Shilo he met the love of his life Edith. They were married just shy of 71 years. After dad retired from the military they settled in Winnipeg.
Even with dementia, his kind nature and his wonderful sense of humour continued to shine. A gifted musician from a young age, his number one love was the fiddle, winning a Manitoba fiddle championship. He played multiple instruments in bands throughout the years. His music brought joy to many people, but none more than his children and grandchildren who were so very proud of him. After retirement from Sears, he and Edith spent time travelling in their RV. Norm loved nothing better than to have his family all together for a BBQ, entertaining them with stories, jokes and sitting around a fire playing his guitar for us. His love of nature was passed on to his children, came from being surrounding by bush on the family farm. He dearly loved his grandchildren and was always excited to spend time with them whether playing games, setting up a tent in the back yard for camping, hiding socks or cheating at checkers.
Norman was predeceased by his parents, Reuben and Katie (Riel); brothers, Earl and Mervin; sister Doreen, and dear son Blaine.
He is lovingly remembered by Edith, his wife; his brother Murray (Hazel); his children, Norma, Perry, Blair and Maureen (Igor) as well as 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
Donations in Norman’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
