Wally was a lifelong buddy of my late father, John, and through their friendship, I got to know Wally when I was in grade school. Wally was legendary in my view, and he ranked right up there with test pilots and astronauts, because he was this really cool guy who built massive steel structures during the day, and at night designed and raced fast, noisy and flashy race cars! When I reached driving age, Wally helped me fix up my first vehicle, and later, taught me to weld and helped me get certified. He had a calm, intelligent and level headed demeanour that I always found very engaging. I enjoyed working for Wally, because he’d provide the necessary tools, materials, and instructions, and then step away to allow me to get the job done the way I thought best. Later on, my interactions with Wally became purely social, and I enjoyed regularly chatting with him over a coffee at Tim’s, or sailing across the lake to his cabin on Peonan Point for a cold beer and a catch up session. I learned a lot from Wally over the years and appreciated his unhesitant willingness to share thoughts, ideas, tools and materials. Wally is no longer in our presence and I will miss his friendship, however, am comforted knowing his very admirable legacy lives on in each of us. - Posted by: A.J. Victor (friend) on: Apr 27, 2023

My deepest condolences to Wally's relatives. I first met Wally in 1967 at the "Brooks" sitting with my dad Al, Ronnie, & "Uncle Pete", and of course they were slaking their thirst after yet another hot day of iron-working and welding. I have lived about a 3-minute walk to Wally's for 46 years. I always found Wally to be very generous and honest. He offered, with very little cost, to build my clothesline set-up, hose stand, & framework support for my house bricks...all outstanding work! Wally was always very personable and we shared a ton of laughs. He sure loved Georgie & talked of her very respectfully and I know she said the same of Wally. I was welcome any time for a beer(s) in his man-cave (garage) where he loved talking racing, the 500, his trips there for like 30 years, his beloved military Jeep, & the 383 golden commando Plymouth. He was wasn't one to complain about his aches & pains, but it was unusual when I called one day and knocked on his door another and got no answer. It has been my pleasure to have known such a great guy, very nice man, and many can say the same thing. Rest in peace Wally. A friend, Larry Hayden - Posted by: Larry Hayden (Friend) on: Apr 23, 2023
