MARION GOEHRING

1934 - 2023

Marion passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the Extendicare Oakview Place in Winnipeg, MB.

Marion was born on the family farm near Wapella, SK to Mabel (nee Surridge) and Sydney Hutchinson. She was the oldest of four sisters. She graduated from high school in Wapella and then with a nursing degree from Regina General Hospital. Marion nursed for 15 years at Regina General, Moosomin and Portage La Prairie Hospitals. She attended the University of Saskatchewan and obtained a diploma of Nursing Administration. She took a Director of Nursing position at Wolseley, SK, set up a hospital in Pinawa, MB and was a head nurse at Calgary’s new Foothills Hospital.

Marion met Harvey Goehring at a Whirlaway Westerners Square Dance. They were married in Moosomin, SK on September 5, 1970; they had one son Dale. Pioneer Grain moved the family to Winnipeg in 1973.

Marion was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed golfing at Breezy Bend, curling and volunteering for church and school. She loved travelling to Texas in the winter and to see Dale (Andrea) and granddaughters.

Her passion for cooking, cleaning, sewing and organization was phenomenal.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 at St. James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Drive, Winnipeg, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Marion was my much admired cousin. The first word that comes to my mind when I think of her many talents is the rather old term HOME MAKER. Marion had an independent career before marriage but what she did as a wife and mother is what I honour. She enabled Harvey and Dale to achieve much and she enjoyed a great life working to make an organized, comfortable and loving home environment. A proud legacy. Thinking of Harvey and Dale and family and all the cousins that will remember Marion with love and admiration. - Posted by: Marie Everett (cousin) on: Apr 22, 2023

  • Please accept our deepest sympathy. It was so nice connecting with you guys down south. The golf courses will miss Marion for sure. - Posted by: Debbie & Tom Link (Godmother) on: Apr 22, 2023

  • Deepest sympathy to you Harvey & family. - Posted by: Bob & Darryl Gill (Business colleague) on: Apr 22, 2023

  • Having known the Goehring family for approximately 40 years, it is sad that we will no longer interact with Marion at Breezy Bend. Marion was a gentle woman with a good sense of humour. I (Hanne) dubbed her “Boring Goehring”, because her drives were always in the fairway, and she would just laugh. Harvey and Marion were huge supporters of Breezy, and we will miss having Marion say Grace at special functions. RIP Marion. - Posted by: Hanne and Ole Hansen (friends) on: Apr 22, 2023

  • The Todd/Styles families are sad to learn of Marion's passing. We have many fond memories of Marion coordinating (should we say babysitting?) the junior golfers at Blumberg Golf Course after taking over the program from predecessor Margaret Styles. We are thinking of Harvey and Dale during this difficult time. - Posted by: Brett Todd (Fellow Golfer) on: Apr 22, 2023
