It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Maria Scarpelli at the age of 85.
Maria is survived by her husband Pasquale Scarpelli, brother Alfredo Maida (Maria), sister Immacolata Vercillo, brother-in-law Ernesto Scrapelli, sisters-in-law, Rosina Arnone and Gina Scarpelli, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria was born on August 1, 1937 in Cosenza, Italy. She immigrated to Canada in 1962, and soon met the love of her life, Pasquale. They were married in August 1964.
Maria worked in health care at King George Hospital (Riverview) for many years. It was there that she made a lot of lifelong friends with her sweet and humourous personality.
Maria cherished time spent with family and friends and made sure there was always a fresh batch of honey cookies for all to enjoy. She loved spending time with Pasquale tending to their garden, and making sure she was up to date on all the latest Young and the Restless episodes.
We would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Riverview Health Care Centre (CD3) for their exemplary care and compassion.
Pallbearers will be Michael Maida, Salvatore Maida, Andrew Mauro, Matteo Albo, Joe Albo, and Michael Nicholls.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Holy Rosary Parish with a private burial to follow.

Maria and Pasquale use to come into the Grant Park Safeway every Friday morning (where I and Cathy worked) and we developed a friendship. When Maria became unable to come in to shop with Pasquale, Cathy and I started to pop in to see them at their home. Maria loved the visits and we did too! Our condolences to you Pasquale. I have wonderful memories of family meals on Sundays at her house on Jesse. All my cousins and uncles and aunts there. She would cook for about 18 of us. Very traditional Italian lunch every Sunday after church. Christmas Eve at her home on Mulvey was equally memorable. She was a kind woman, a wonderful aunt and a gracious host. My parents, Vincenzo and Iva Sinosich, were friends of Pasquale e Maria. They met at our home at 71 Sherbrook St. at our Sunday gatherings where there was much dancing.
