ALEXANDRA ZYWYLO

The family is saddened to announce the passing of Alexandra Zywylo on Sunday, April 16, 2023.

Alexandra was born in a Ukrainian refugee camp in Cornberg, Germany. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1949 and grew up on Scotia Street in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents, Petro and Maria Zywylo, and brothers, George, Bill, and John. She is survived by her sister Olga Onyschuk (Don), sister-in-law Lena Zywylo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who admired her wisdom, kindness, and sense of humour.

Adventurous from an early age, Alexandra moved to London, England at age 19 and was employed with the Ministry of Technology. Returning to Winnipeg two years later, Alexandra’s career primarily consisted of working for the Royal Bank of Canada and New Flyer Industries, where she developed life-long friendships.

Alexandra lived her life to the fullest and had a passion for travel, especially throughout Europe, enjoying many vacations with family and friends. She was also an art and culture enthusiast, attending various local events regularly including the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Manitoba Opera, and Folklorama. Alexandra loved spending time with family and her presence at family get-togethers will be so deeply missed.

Alexandra was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage, and in lieu of flowers we ask you to consider making a donation to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal through Canada-Ukraine Foundation at www.cufoundation.ca or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Alex, Lucy and I went to St. John's High School together and became best friends. We lost touch after she and Lucy went to Europe and I got married. We called each other and meant to get together but it never happened, I never forgot her. So sorry to her family at this difficult time, my prayers are with you. - Posted by: Sylvia (Joss) Woodward (friend) on: May 01, 2023

  • So sad and shocked to see our friend Alex passed. Alex was such a fun lady to be around. There were 5 of us who worked at New Flyer and we would get together for dinners. The highlight of the night was stories of Alex's adventures, she will be truly missed. We know she liked her red wine, and she always knew the right kind to order for dinner, she will have all the wine she wants now. Rest in peace dear friend, we will never forget you. Lynda, Shanti, Karen and Carol. - Posted by: LYNDA GULLEN (Friend) on: Apr 30, 2023

  • I am a relatively new friend to Alex. We met in the exercise room during the winter when I lived in the same block as her 5 years ago. In the spring we took to walking every morning during the week, followed by coffee at McDonald's and the occasional breakfast at the Norvilla. I found stories of her travels so very interesting. I admired her great knowledge of just about anything and everything. I would call her a walking encyclopedia. Maybe had something to do with her passion for crossword puzzles. We shared many moments remembering the good old days. I miss her so much. Gone too soon but certainly not forgotten. - Posted by: Val Park (Friend) on: Apr 29, 2023
