ROBERT (BOB) SZUCS
Unexpectedly on April 1, Bob Szucs, beloved brother, uncle and great-uncle, passed away at home. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and funny soul who touched the lives of many.
Bob was predeceased by his mother and father, Rose and Joseph, left to mourn are his sister Shirley (Laszlo) Pothe, brother Joseph (Leslie) Szucs, nephew Joey (Suzanne, Keith, and Justine) Pothe, niece Meredith (Alexandra and Evann) Pippio, and nephew David Szucs.
Bob was born and raised in Winnipeg and graduated from Gordon Bell High School before receiving a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1975 from the University of Manitoba. He began his career with Safeway in 1977, working in their corporate head offices in Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Calgary. He retired in 2014, and returned to Winnipeg to be with his family and childhood friends. Over the 37 years, Bob made lifelong friends and was well-known for his dedication and willingness to help others in the workplace.
Bob had a passion for golf and spent many hours perfecting his swing on the greens with his buddies at courses throughout Canada. He enjoyed playing cribbage, reading and watching everything action, sci-fi, and fantasy. He faithfully cheered on the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers even while living away from Manitoba. Bob always looked forward to his weekly Wednesday “meeting” at the Curtis with his close friends that grew up together. There was no denying, Bob had a wonderful sense of humour and could lighten up any room with his laughter.
Bob enjoyed attending family birthdays, holidays and everything in between. He was known for his stories and often sketched some part on a napkin at the dinner table to help explain. Keith and Justine knew Bob as “Old Unca Bob,” with who they enjoyed playing games, colouring, and talking about school. The new family pets, Gracie the cat and Sophie the dog, were getting to know Bob when he visited.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. The world has lost one of the good ones.
Rest in peace, Bobby. You are at peace now. Thank you for being part of our lives. Your laughter and kind heart will always be remembered. Until we meet again.
Celebration of Life, May 11 at 10:00 a.m., Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bob to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

Bob was indeed one of the "good guys". My heart goes out to all of his family and friends.. we are all blessed to have known him and had him in our lives; we will all miss him. Our memories are our treasures now. He was always quick to laugh, join in to help and provide support to any and all both at work and as a friend. Bob was special... I can still hear his infectious giggle. - Posted by: Judy Gallagher (Co-worker from Safeway) on: Apr 29, 2023
