JAMES KENNETH (KEN) MAXWELL

April 2, 1933 - April 24, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ken Maxwell.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sharon (Tim) Luchuck, Dave (Sandra), Ron, Shelley (Craig) Lamothe, Bryon (Erin); grandchildren, Ryan, Scott (Ashley), Kristen (Jordy), Kevin (Kayla), Kelsey (Robert), Carly, Sydney, and Emma; great-grandchildren, Paisley, Ella, Avery, Nora, and Owen. Survived by his brothers, Noel (Violet), Ivan (Freda) and Vernon (Elsie) of Monaghan, Ireland and sisters, Betty of Dollingstown, Ireland, Mavis (Jim) of Bangor, Ireland and Iris (Brian) of the Isle of Man, sisters-in-law, Joan of Monaghan, Ireland, Georgina of Winnipeg and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Joan (2015), his parents, Marcus and Margaret, and brothers, Trevor and Meredith.

Dad was born April 2, 1933 in Killnadrain, Ireland. He immigrated to Canada in June 1953. He worked in Toronto and later in Thunder Bay where he met Mom. They were married in 1957 and moved to Winnipeg in 1959, raising their family in Windsor Park. Dad spent his working life in the grocery business. He was the proud owner of Parkette Grocery for 25 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement Dad enjoyed golfing and curling and weekly golf games with his sons and sons-in-law.

Dad was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had an outgoing, friendly personality and was the life of the party. He enjoyed family and attending sports and any activities that his grandchildren were involved in.

In July 2020, Dad moved into Devonshire House where he enjoyed making new friends and participating in the many activities.

Dad was a very special person who had a positive outlook on life and a smile on his face. We are going to miss our nightly call from Dad.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Green Acres Funeral Home, #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg. Anyone wishing to join virtually can do so through Ken’s obituary at www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation if so desired.
