Margaret Muirhead Fair Sutherland (Murray) "Greta" age 97, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. She was the widow of John Shaw Sutherland. They shared nearly 50 years of marriage together prior to his passing in 1997.
Born in Newhaven, Lieth Edinburgh Scotland, she was the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Murray. She attended Trinity Academy in Edinburgh.
Greta immigrated to Winnipeg in 1982 and moved into the Eastern Star Chalet on Cathcart St. shortly after, where she lived the rest of her life. She joined the Order of the Eastern Star in Scotland in 1966 and affiliated to the Friendship Chapter in Winnipeg in 1982. She served as Worthy Matron in 1989, Grand Representative in 1992 and Grand Officer in 2000. The Eastern Star was her passion and its members and the residents of the chalet were like a second family to her. She will be forever remembered for her numerous charitable endeavors and caring personality. Greta always looked forward to her visits from family especially from her great-grandchildren. They will miss the hugs and cookies that came with each visit.
She is survived by her children, Ian (Elizabeth), Murray (Stormi) and Stuart (Jackie); her grandchildren, Donna (Jackie), Mandy, Stuart (Patricia), Gareth (Deanne), Shane (Lisa) and Rachel; her great-grandchildren, Laura, Jimmy, Joe (Shannon), Chloe, Brandon, Taylin, Ethan, Avery, Scarlett, Mackenzie and Stuart; her great-great-grandchildren, Logan, Theo and Noah. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband John, her sister Anne and her son Graeme.
At Greta’s request no formal service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

Condolences to Greta's family. My mother Elva Bayn was a long time friend from the Easter Star. Although they weren't able to get out and visited each other these last few years they kept in touch regularly by phone. Greta will be greatly missed.
