WANDA PERNER

On May 19, 2023, Wanda Perner, affectionately known as Omi passed away peacefully at Donwood Personal Care Home, where she lived and received nine years of wonderful compassionate care.

Wanda was predeceased by her husband Gerhard and daughter Christel, both in 2015; and her brother Albert many years ago. She leaves to mourn her son Gerhard (Ann); daughter Liz (Gordon); four grandchildren, Darren (Ashley), Brent, Michelle (Mike), and Michael (Jennifer); four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Amara, Payton, and Madison; two brothers, Waldemar and Odolphe; and three sisters, Marta, Tina (all of Winnipeg) and Freida who still resides in Germany.

Wanda was born in Budy Borowickie, Poland on February 13, 1930. Her childhood experience had its ups and downs, and the war years did not make her life any easier. She worked hard cooking and cleaning in people’s homes and on ranches in Germany. She met and married her husband Gerhard and so, pregnant with two kids in tow, they decided to immigrate to Canada for a better life. They landed in Quebec on October 31, 1955, with Winnipeg being their final destination. She worked as a sewing machine operator and helped raise her grandson Michael for the first 12 years of his life. She took great pride in her cooking abilities and kept a spotless home. She and Gerhard spent many pleasant summer days at their cabin in the Lac du Bonnet area for over 30 years.

She will be laid to rest with her husband in the Elmwood Cemetery. The family has chosen to celebrate Wanda’s life quietly, and as such there will be no service.

A kind, humble heart has gone silent.

Rest in peace Omi.
