COLLEEN MAE BROUGHTON

(nee TUFTS)

Colleen Mae Broughton (nee Tufts) passed away on August 26, 2023 after sharing her grace, humour, and her heart with family and friends for over 90 years.



Colleen was born March 26, 1933 to James and Violet Tufts. She was the youngest to six brothers and three sisters. Surviving siblings are Laverne Tufts, Irene Graham and Keith Tufts (wife Gladys) (Jean Tufts). Since passed are Wilfrid Tufts, Marjorie Post, Lawrence Tufts, Mervin Tufts, Doris Kennedy and Jack Tufts. Colleen loved to share her life on the Fairfax, Manitoba, farm, her love for her brothers and sisters, and the challenges the family faced through the ‘30s and ‘40s. These experiences formed a prairie strong character, raised in love but forged in the toughness of a farming community.



Colleen married James Broughton on Sept 17, 1952, in Brandon, Manitoba. The devoted couple were blessed with three children, Eileen, Murray, and Kathleen. Jim passed away Dec 30, 1991. Colleen and Jim’s union resulted in seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.



Colleen held a special light to all those that knew her. She was generous to a fault, a wonderful artist and was fiercely protective of her family. She will be missed by all.



A memorial service will be held on September 16, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Eagle Ridge United Church in Coquitlam, BC.
