LINDA LOUISE WIEBE

(nee VESEY)

December 21, 1942 -

September 7, 2023

Linda has shared her last glorious laughs and hugs. She died peacefully on September 7, 2023, with family at her side.

Remembering her with love and laughter are Werner (aka Curly), her husband of 58 years, children, Kim (Aubrey), Heather (Richard) and Peter, grandchildren, Brittany, Jessica (Adam), Dylan and Brooke, her brother Norman, her niece Michelle (Chris) and many family and friends too numerous to mention. Linda was predeceased by her parents, Lillian and Frank Vesey.

Linda was born on December 21, 1942, in McKenzie Island, Ontario. Linda and family later moved to Winnipeg and settled in St. James. This was where Linda met two of her BFFs, Blaine and Gail. Their beautiful friendship continued throughout the rest of their lives and made for many happy memories.

Linda was the most loving person we’ve ever met. Her patience, empathy, compassion, and love seemed limitless. Linda’s cup was never half-full or half-empty, it was overflowing. She had the ability to find happiness everywhere in life and was able to turn ordinary into extraordinary. She even had all of us kids convinced that “fluffed milk” (milk with vanilla in a blender) was a treat for special occasions! She must have had 36 hours in each day as she had time for everyone and everything. She had a long-term career with Seine River School Division, volunteered with multiple organizations, curled for many years and attended every activity her children and grandchildren participated in. When did you sleep?

Linda was the glue of the extended family and kept us all connected. She organized family reunions, annual bingo bowling, many cousin lunches and countless neighbourhood get-togethers. She was always the first to arrive and the last to leave! Our social queen had a remarkable ability to juggle all this but live life fully present. When you spent time with Linda, she was not thinking about the next thing she had to do, she was interested and engaged in that moment with you.

Linda loved to travel. Her first big trip saw her, and Blaine go on a European adventure. The two of them had so much fun at Octoberfest we’re surprised they ever came back! Future trips with family and friends included all of Canada and the U.S., Mexico, and returns to Europe. Linda was always up for an adventure if it included family and friends.

While Linda was happy wherever she was, one of her true happy places was the family cottage at Albert Beach/Plage Albert. Every summer starting in 1973 was spent at the cottage. Mom packed up all of us kids on the last day of school and we didn’t come back until the day before school started. There were always other family and friends coming to stay with us. We tried to fit as much into each day as possible - entire days on the beach, swimming in the waves, long walks and bike rides, exercises in the water, board and card games, dance parties in the living room, baking, reading and one of Linda’s favourite activities - eating, especially Irish bread and cinnamon buns from Einfield’s.

To Linda: you were the best wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, friend any of us could ever hope for. We were so lucky to have you in our lives. You are loved and missed every day.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at Canad Inns Fort Garry, 1824 Pembina Hwy. on Thursday, September 21. If you are attending, please bring a story about Linda to share. Doors open at 4:00 p.m., story time starts at 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or a charity of your choice.

  • Linda was always staple at Albert Beach. She would come a set up her blanket at the beach, get the daughters settled and swim a number of Laps before chatting with any and all beach buddies. Her lovely smile and greeting was genuine and warm. She’d chat and shoot the breeze with everyone . Our neighbourhood was brighter with her there. Our deepest condolences to you as you remember her and gather to celebrate her life. ❤️ - Posted by: Lori Kliewer Fehr (Cottage neighbour) on: Sep 16, 2023

  • I remember Linda always smiling, always laughing. When I would babysit Kim, Heather and Peter she made sure she had the cookie jar full of those amazing chocolate chip cookies she made and shared the recipe. I still think of her whenever I make those cookies. Linda was always interested in how I was doing in school and always ready with helpful advice. I know she will be missed by all who knew her and I am sending my condolences knowing that your wonderful memories will keep Linda forever in your hearts and minds. - Posted by: Cindy Wright (Family friend) on: Sep 16, 2023

  • Sorry to hear that this wonderful lady is now only with us in our memories, In my days of greatest need for support, compassion, and a shoulder to cry on; Linda was always there. I will be eternally grateful for her considerable kindness. If there really is a heaven, it will now be a much better place, My prayers and condolences to Curly, Kim, Peter, Heather and their respective families. - Posted by: Brian Riach (Friend) on: Sep 15, 2023

  • Linda loved the beach! She was the best beach Mom! When we were kids, my Mom would meet Linda with her kids on the beach for the day. And when I had my daughters, I would do the same with her daughter Heather and her kids, Jessica & Brittany. When Linda's own children grew up, she spent as much time as she did with her own children with her own grandkids at the beach spending hours in the water with them. Told her many times, I want to be just like her when I grow up! She was a special and lovely lady. Her spirit will forever be tied to Albert Beach and in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know Linda's "joie de vie"! My condolences to Heather and all her family. Big Hugs, the LeGras family xo - Posted by: Doris Anne Sabourin (beach friend) on: Sep 12, 2023
