July 28, 1948 – August 16, 2023

It is with a sad heart that I announce the passing of Doug Cauldwell. Doug leaves behind his devoted sister, Anita, as well as his Aunt Ev, and numerous cousins. Predeceased by his father Bill, and mother, Ruby.
He was born in Winnipeg in 1948 and attended Rockwood and Grant Park High Schools. He worked at Kmart, Eaton's and CPR as an apprentice carman.
Doug's life changed when he became a paraplegic at the age of 21 but he overcame many obstacles and was able to live independently until 2022. He was a loving son and brother, and will be missed.
His favourite place on earth was the family cottage in Sandy Hook. The early days – July birthday parties at various Interlake locations, fishing with Dad at the Gimli pier, corn roasts, bingo, and Friday night movies at the community club, Winnipeg Beach Boardwalk Days (the rides and spending money in the “digger machines”, hanging out at the 10th Ave phonebooth, the big yellow dinghy at the pier on 11th, biking to Willow Creek to fish. In later years, snowmobiling with friends, exploring the Interlake in his van, fishing at Hnausa and Arborg piers with his sister, having bonfires, gardening and just generally puttering around.
A thank you to the staff on 3D at Riverview Health Centre for the excellent care, making the month and a half that he was there an enjoyable experience and providing him with the freedom to come and go as he pleased, which he sorely missed prior to arriving at the Centre. And a big thank you to cousins, Bill and Sharon and Auntie Ev for their much needed support during this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place, and no formal service will be held.
Those wishing to remember Doug may make a donation to Spinal Cord Injury Manitoba.
