JEAN AILEEN SMITH

1926 - 2023

On November 8, 2023 at St. Boniface Hospital Jean got her wish and joined her husband, Freddy.

Left behind in sadness but comforted by her love are sister, Josie (Martin Horvath), daughters, Jo-Anne (Gerry Doerksen), Danita (Roger Brisson), Leslie (Dave Dawson) and Nancy (Mike Lipinski), nine grandchildren and their spouses and 14 precious great-grandchildren.

Jean was born in Winnipeg to Albert and Wilma Rolfe, one of nine children. In 1947 she married the love of her life, Fred Smith. Together they built their home on Sackville Street, where they raised their four daughters. Once all her girls were in school, Jean worked at the Manitoba Health Services Commission, which she enjoyed immensely. She worked for 25 years becoming a manager and mentoring many young people just beginning their careers.

Her favourite role, however, was that of wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. We will always remember the waffles after the weekly swims at the Civic Centre, the roast beef dinners, the butter tarts and the delicious chocolate chip cookies, the card games that were both competitive and friendly, and the quiet chats with a good cup of tea. We will miss you, Mom!

The family thanks the amazing staff at the Shaftesbury for helping her enjoy her years there with her many new friends.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
