It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Frances May Gold (nee Tease) of Calgary, Alberta, on December 19, 2023 at the age of 95 years. She passed peacefully in her sleep with family at her side.
Frances was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 22, 1928, where she attended Kelvin High School. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 1951, Frances wanted an adventure, and she and a friend set sail for Africa. She lived and worked in various cities in South Africa before returning to Canada in 1952.
In 1958, Frances married Allan Gold, and together they had three children. The family moved to Calgary in 1977. After her husband’s sudden passing a few years later, Frances retired to a 60-acre hobby farm just outside of Olds, Alberta.
Eventually, Frances moved back to Calgary. In her later years she resided at the Bow-Crest Care Home, where she enjoyed playing Yahtzee in the atrium when her children would visit, or playing word games, or bingo with the other residents.
Frances loved books, crossword puzzles, coffee, and chocolate. She was an avid bird watcher, and a seemingly endless number of cats and dogs found a home with her.
She had a great sense of humour and will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by sons, Andrew Gold, Dan Gold (Nancy), and daughter Carole; nieces, Janice (Kelly) Whitehead and Susan (Don) Waddington.
She is predeceased by her husband Allan Henderson Gold; her parents, Finlay Gregg Tease and Jane (Jennie) Tease (nee Robinson); and her sister Dorothy Patricia Luther (nee Tease).
Our thanks to the staff at the Bow-Crest Care Home in Calgary for their exceptional work in caring for our mother for the past eight years.
Fran’s family will be having a private ceremony at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Fran’s family at www.MHFH.com.
In living memory of Frances Gold, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
