Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Dennis was a pleasure to be around. He had a gentle soul and his penchant for introspection was an increasingly rare quality. Always ready with a witty bon mot, he made fast friends with his easy laugh and reliable presence. Our shared love of vocabulary gymnastics and getting to the bottom of day-to-day mysteries made even the toughest assignments more bearable. He has left a hole that will not be easily filled and will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Cory Brownson (Coworker ) on: Jan 23, 2024

  • My brother Dennis was a multi-faceted person. He had a thirst for knowlwdge on many subjests and had many insights and opinions. In his youth he liked to play football with us brothers and kids down the road 0n which we lived. He held the West St Paul Junior High chess championship . I must say that he was very hard to beat at chess when I played him. As a teenager he took an interest in motorcycles and rode one for years. He learned and liked the " Smela Way " of playing the card game " Rummy " which he continued up to this time. When he was not cheering for the Bombers or the Jets, he liked to play golf. Dennis was employed in a variety of fields during his lifetime. He was in the Sales field for many years. He worked at Palliser Furniture and Quest Metals in different capacities. Most recently he was a Shop Superviisor at Rika Property Maintenance until his passing. For all who knew Dennis he will sadly missed and remembered by friends, remaining siblings, Linda,Jane, Darcy,Gail and Sharon, the many nieces and nephews, as well by his wife Dorothy. Like our father, it seems your life was short in years, yet you have left behind many memories for us to cherish over time - Posted by: Darcy Smela (Brother) on: Jan 21, 2024
