CHRISTA EDELTRAUD KESTLER
It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of Christa Edeltraud Kestler at the age of 86 on May 19, 2024, at the Women’s Hospital.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Herbert Kestler (Barb) of Apple Valley, MB and Robert Kestler of Winnipeg, MB; daughter Sabine Irwin (Gerry) of Carman, MB; grandchildren, Allan, Casey, Katrina, Garth, and Kali and great grandchildren, Olivia, Marah, James, Philippa, Keagan and Kestler.
Christa was born on April 17, 1938, in Breslau, Germany to Emma and Puis Mayerhofer. She was predeceased by her husband Josef; brothers, Heinz, Hans, Harry and Mikael; and sister Anna Rosa (Ushi). Christa came to Canada in 1960 at the age of 22, met and fell in love with her husband Josef on the train ride from Halifax to Winnipeg and they married on December 26, 1960. Christa and Joe enjoyed camping and boating in Whiteshell Provincial Park and Falcon Lake and spent much time holidaying in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Christa worked at the Winnipeg Clinic, Hudson's Bay and CFB Winnipeg. Upon retirement she was able to pursue her passion for gardening and spent all of her time in her beautiful much beloved garden. Christa also enjoyed walking every day, regardless of the weather, and made many friends along her daily path. We will forever remember her generosity with family and friends, her unwavering independence, her strong mindset, and her smile will remain in our hearts forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 62 Granada Cres., Winnipeg, MB.
Our family would like to extend special thanks to the caring staff at the Women’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Health Sciences Centre, Women’s Hospital.
