RAYMOND BASIL BURR

January 25, 1943 – May 12, 2024

With great sadness we announce the death of Ray Burr.

Predeceased by parents, Joe and Laura Burr and brother Ken. Survived by loving wife of 52 years, Barbara, sons, Ryan (Susie) and Patrick (Marnie), grandchildren, Adrienne and Joel, sister Ada McNeill, sisters-in-law, Jeryl Burr, LouAnn Rawsthone, Lynn Sawyer, and countless dear friends.

Ray grew up in Charleswood, spent summers at Malachi, served in the RCN, returned to Winnipeg and worked in construction supervision until retirement 2010. He was an avid curler, pool player, sailor, and longtime resident of Bird Lake. Known for his sense of humour, patience, integrity, and readiness to help anyone when needed – “a nice guy”. Ray will be sorely missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 8 (14:00 to 16:00 hours) at Classics Billiards.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.

Thank you to Dr. Brett Houston, the Palliative Care Program, and all those who traversed this path with us.

  • The Kuby family is very saddened by the death of Ray Burr. Our sister Sharon and Barb were best friends at Silver Heights Collegiate. Sharon passed away after a car accident in 1973. Barb and Ray were a great comfort for our parents by staying in touch over the decades. Their presence in the room when our Mom passed away in 2017 was a testament to the salt of the earth people that they are. If you were to look up all-time-solid- citizen in the encyclopedia there would be a picture of Ray with that half smile he always wore. Just a straight shooter who never wanted the light to shine on him, only on those close to him. May he rest in peace. • Barb and I met and became Friends when we were Young teenagers. We lost touch, reconnecting years later when Barb introduced Ray to me. My husband and I shared with Barb and Ray a love for sailing and a love for Vancouver Island, That is where we all became friends. We spent more time talking about sailing than we actually spent sailing which turned out to be almost as much fun. One of our favourite memories of Ray is enhanced by a picture of Ray at the helm of the Last Scene. We will miss you Ray. Condolences to the family he leaves behind. - Posted by: Kathy and Jim Keele (Friends) on: Jun 11, 2024

  • We have been Arizona friends for many years. We have had many wonderful visits, shared meals, and explored the area together. Laughter is one of our fond memories. Ray had so many wonderful stories and adventures that he shared. He gave my sister, an artist, his leather works and tools and she treasured them. Life has many changes but the love and friendships never fade. - Posted by: Anton and Sandra Jones (Arizona fridnds) on: Jun 03, 2024

  • We met Ray through Barb who we’d known for many years. Ray and Barb came to our rescue when we were having difficulty installing new kitchen cabinets at our cottage at Bird Lake where we lived. From that day forward we became good friends and had many delicious meals and visits at each other’s homes at Bird Lake. Ray was always offering to help with our many projects and we much appreciated that. He and Barb were a team who were there for you when you needed them. Later we spent winters in Arizona with Ray and Barb as the best neighbors. In Arizona Ray was still helping neighbors (not just us). And he did so with a smile. He had a dry sense of humor and had a quick wit. There was no doubt of his love for Barb and his boys and grandchildren. He was a good father, husband and a good friend. We will miss him and remember him! Our condolences to Barb, Ryan and Susie, Patrick and Marnie, Adrienne and Joel. Our hearts are heavy and we are sending you our love❤️.
